I'd been interested in this title the moment I'd seen the teaser and love supporting promising smaller Dev projects and GA1 has delivered everything that it has said it would. The game plops you into the role of Captain on a mission to find a new home to for humanity and it's not going to be easy.You manage your ship (which you build using modules with a variety of functions and benefits for the crew and mission) as well as your crew who are formed with the use of genetic cloning with the intital crew being human you can harvest DNA from defeated aliens to create new humanoid hybrids with their own abilities. With this as a base you manage the crew and ship, gather resources through salvage and expeditions with the procedurally generated systems offering varying difficulties depending how much of a challenge you want.Challenge also comes from the fact there is permadeath with your crew effectively being your "lives", more crew means more lives and a new captain to be promoted if something bad happens to your current captain. Gameplay primarily takes place on the ship with you having the ability to speed up processes by performing them yourself on consoles, the ship can also be attacked by aliens or infested if something comes back from an expedition.The game is good, has a classic sci-fi vibe about it akin to Alien movies with a dark iscolated feeling about the setting as you explore your growing ship in first person. The movement feels rapid and a bit jarring at times but you can be thankful of that when there's a crisis onboard, the gameplay is quite samey in regards to management and expeditions but often throws moments at you that can be enjoyed. There isn't much customisation beyond the ship name and layout of the modules, crew members are randomly generated and named upon creation but different corporations offer different approaches to genesis missions so there is replay ability and new challenges if you succeed or fail.Great game, I'd recommend it.
