Beautiful bamboo !
To start, this purchase was a gift, as I know very little about making things grow I did my version of research. That being said, from what I understand, trying to get bamboo in the species desired in seed form is sketchy, as well as not even being bamboo seeds, add in the germination of said questionable seeds being roughly 3% out of 100 seeds. . . Not good odds . . . When trying to give a surprise gift. . . To make a long story longer. . . Old Oaks provided the perfect solution, the bamboo arrived in Oregon quite timely, when unboxed stood up tall, roughly 6' high, not one leaf on these plants ( grasses . . .) Was discolored, healthy stalks, all in all in prime condition. It's been 3 weeks since they were received, and in her words "are beautiful"! By far well worth every penny ! If you want to gamble with seeds, that's your call, if you want a guaranteed beautiful plant . . . Old Oaks Garden and Nursery is the way to go. And as a disclaimer, I have no affiliation with this company nor have I received anything for my review. . . Other than from my girlfriend, but that's something else. . .

Arrived in a healthy condition
I'm across the country from Florida, and could not be more impressed with the condition of the bamboo. I've purchased other plants online, and unlike those, this plant arrived in excellent condition. Unpackaging the plant made it clear why. The plant was secured in the box with tape and string, such that it didn't get jostled while shipping. The root ball was wrapped and taped so that it held more than enough moisture for the trip. This company has figured out that prepping the plant for shipping is the key. In addition, the written instructions that came with the plant were well written and very informative. I typically don't read planting instructions, but thankfully I did this time. Yes, I would have wanted to cut the circling roots, but the instructions made it clear cutting would be a mistake. Good information, a healthy plant, and looking forward to watching this bamboo grow to 30+ feet!

Flowering black bamboo will not survive
This plant arrived in good shape. The problem that I noticed upon looking closely was it appeared it had recently flowered. Shortly after planting this and one other black bamboo plant it looked a bit droopy. I covered it with a light insect netting to eleviate any stress on the plant. I thought it was doing ok, then after a couple of weeks it died. I have never lost a black bamboo plant before. I do believe it had flowered prior to shipping, which results in non survival not matter what you do. I am very disappointed and frustrated after spending 80.00 for a plant

It was wrapped in paper towels with the jelly water ball things and that pretty much got everywhere when you started unwrapping it
Upon arrival of this plant, I found four problems with it. Problem one: It's not black as advertised. (Pamphlet says it's young and will turn black over time. Gives instructions on taking care of it.) Problem two: It was wrapped in paper towels with the jelly water ball things and that pretty much got everywhere when you started unwrapping it. Problem three: It is literally leaning to the side like it was growing on a hillside before it was uprooted for sale. So it's pretty much grown sideways but I'll fix that with a stick to guide it back up. Problem four: Only 1 plant out of the bunch is close to the age of going black from what I am seeing at the nodes. The other two are still very young.

Excited to see my black bamboo arrive and I can’t wait for it to grow up :-)
I ordered three black bamboo and they were all very healthy when they arrived. I can’t wait for them to fill out. It’ll be wonderful to watch them grow! I know they’re gonna outgrow their pots quickly, but just trying to get them a little bit stronger and more established before planting. I read the instructions and provided lots of water and they completely came to life afterwards.

So far, it is………
I was very apprehensive because of a couple of reviews, but there were a lot of great reviews so took a chance. It was a very healthy juvenile bamboo. Has not turned black yet, and hasn’t grown a whole lot yet, but I read that they can sometimes for no reason grow very fast after a period of little growth. The amount of foliage is consistently full, and already a favorite of ours. Came in great shape to. Was worried about that to. Update several months after planted. Basically nothing has changed. Same size, still healthy though.

Couldn't have asked for anything better!
Couldn't have asked for anything better! Arrived healthy and beautiful. Wrapped in aquasorb to keep hydrated during shipping. I don't live far from Florida so shipping was lightning quick. I'm excited to see this Nigra beauty turn into a beautiful screen hedge from my neighbors.
