The Fabulous Girl's Guide to Decorum

Almost Fabulous
Women have always had a hard time in the career climb. This book lets women know how to laugh at ourselves and gives good advice on how to handle our mistakes gracefully, and hopefully how to avoid them in the future. While sex may still be a touchy subject even today, I rather liked how frank the authors were about handling the one-night fling, a martial mating, and boy toy mistakes. Granted not every woman does all of these things, some may do all, but instead of being embarrassed and depressed or (worse yet) rude about the situation, why not elegantly brush yourself off and keep going forward through life? Life is meant to be enjoyed and the FG's encourage everyone to do so. Remember though to take it all in with a grain of salt. For a different perspective, I would recommend THE RULES (Ellen Fein, Sherrie Schneider) and THE GIRL'S GUIDE TO POWER AND SUCCESS(Susan Wilson Solovic).

Manners For The City Girl
I really enjoyed this book! Most of the members of my book club also enjoyed it. The only thing that may bother some readers is that the book is a bit "wordy". Truly FABULOUS girls should not find this to be the case! If you're already FABULOUS and FULL OF YOURSELF (like I am), you'll love it!-Miss Pearl, Atlanta Ga

Cute and Fun
I normally give this book as a graduation gift for young ladies going into college. It is a fun quick read and reference for modern day etiquette.

Great Book! Very Funny!
I'm still reading this book...I now keep it by my nightstand and grab it to read a couple of pages per day. It's a great center of resource for MODERN issues of how to handle common situations.

Love all of the FG books!
The FG books are fabulous! Have a few different titles and they make a great gift! Recently purchased a couple for friends who are having a bit of trouble being assertive.

Not Your Standard Decorum Book
I checked out this book at my local library in pursuit of enlightening myself on decorum. I'm more than half way done with it, and so far, it's ok. I'll finish reading the book (I might as well since I'm borrowing it at no charge) but I don't think I'll buy it.Be warned: if you're looking for a more conventional and traditional etiquette book (like Emily Post's)-- The Fabulous Girl's Guide to Decorum is NOT for you! Avoid avoid! While I enjoyed some aspects of the book (particularly the chapters related to work and friendships) and has its entertaining moments, I didn't really care so much about the sex and courtship section. Like having a threesome to fulfill my significant other's fantasy. In addition to being cool with him going to strip clubs. Maybe I'm too old-fashioned or "too conservative" for the current times, but I'll pass! That, and having affairs with married men. Not my cup of tea. I can't help but feel the "FG" slightly over-compromises for men who are not high quality.I will continue reading this book since I'm almost done with it. But after I'm done--I'm reading the latest edition of Emily Post's Etiquette.

Middle aged women reveling in their past promiscuity
I was more than disappointed with the purchase of this "decorum" book. There was nothing that even resembled etiquette in the pages. Instead, I was appalled as I read line after line encouraging intercourse with one's boss, interns, employees and basically anyone else that one might meet on the street. Even as a current college student, I've never met anyone with standards this low. There are portions entitled "The 10 commandments of infidelity", I'm sure that a well-mannered woman understands the emotional pain that extra-marital affairs cause to children and to the spouses involved and would not willingly inflict that pain on another, yet the book states, "Cheaters never prosper- unless they follow the infidelity commandments". The ten commandments state that one should practice lying in the mirror so she can become convincing. There is also a portion (the title is too inappropriate to be given) that tells women that it is "absolutely essential" to have a couple guy friends that you call over just for having sex. There is a certain dichotomy as to use of expletives. The book states that a woman should be careful of her speech- yet the book is filled with deplorable rubbish that would make a sailor blush. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone as it would not be a stretch of the imagination to see this book as offensive to some, if not most. I can recommend several other modern etiquette books which are witty as well as intelligent and do not endorse the prostituting of ones body as a means of advancing (or liberating)her life. There was nothing of true intellect anywhere within this book. I have now discovered the difference between being a Lady and being a "Fabulous Girl". I would say that Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel and Jackie Onassis were in fact Ladies, and while they were fabulous- they were not women that a book such as this would produce.

For the undecorous among us
An amusing read. Have to say it has not helped with my decorum. If anything I am worse.

Great writing
The writing in this book is great. Crisp and clean. It's an easy, witty read. The subject matter is a rather juvenile if you're over 30, but the writing and humor make up for it!
