Eden and After

Latest book from Nan goldin Eden and After.
This book follows on from her previous book "The Devils Playground" The book concentrates on children born between 1990 and the present. The photographs have been taken in many countries such as U.S.A., Mexico, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Switzerland, Finland and Sweden. The book starts with the pictures of mothers before the children are born, just after, and birth up to teenage years. What the photographer has actually done is to show children in all of their different moods and situations such as being sad, smiling, sleepy and being happy. Also making friendships that could possibly last a lifetime. I have always considered the photographer to take rather intense photographs and this shows in the relationship between parent and child both male and female. In the photographs you will also notice the cultural differences between U.S.A. and Europe, two French photographs are very noticeable. This book will give you some very good ideas of how to capture childhood at in its moods in a photograph. People who have already seen "The Devils Playground" will like this book the photographer is unique in what she photographs. My only grumble is I wish the book had been printed in Germany as this book has a very expensive retail price.

Stunning images, but I wish she had stuck with film. The digital images from after 2010 are flat or blown out (in an ugly way) compared to the gorgeous images shot prior to this date. Film is far more forgiving to Nan Goldin's photographic style, a medium she had mastered. Five stars for the images though...
