So much cable noise and phasing issues
Overall well built. Sound is great if you are super still and the planets are aligned. Mine was used and I am suspicious at best due to the intense noise the cable produces with almost no movement. And the mic produces some weird off axis anomalies that make me nervous that my “almost new” purchase may have been a dud after all. Something just isn’t right. I have tried to eliminate variables so I am running it straight into a zoom F6 recorder. If you touch the cable or even breathe on it a weird tunnel vortex sound starts to appear. I fear I will never trust it knowing it was used so I will probably have to send it back and buy a new one.

Amazing sound, terrible handling noise
No doubt this mic sounds really, really good. A sweet, crisp sound for the voice. However, you will spend a TON of time eliminating rubbing noise from the cable if your subject moves. The cable is made of a strong wire that seems indestructible (good), but if you even breath on the cable you can hear noise.. really loud rubbing noise (bad). So, brush up on your stress relief loop techniques because you'll def need it!

The MKE2 GOLD is perfect.
I have a lot of lav mics in my mic locker--the Tram TR50, Sony ECM44B, Lectrosonics M152, cheap beater lavs--and this is my go-to lav time and time again for work where the sound quality actually matters. Voice tones are natural, and you can even get some nice sound out of a guitar with an MKE2 if placed correctly. I barely need to touch the EQ, and most of the time I don't even need EQ. The MKE2 is less honky in the midrange than the TR50, less shrill in the highs than the ECM44B, and picks up far more natural sound than the M152 when mounted on a collar.Simply put, I feel the MKE2 GOLD is one of the best lav mics on the market, if not the best lav mic out there. I've tried a lot of lavs, and I keep coming back to this one. As picky as I am about my gear, that should say a lot.
