I contacted the company who makes it and this was their response: "Different forms of vitamin C have different pH requirements for maximum stability and absorption. The form of vitamin C that we use is called sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP). It is a very stable and bioavailable form of vitamin C and needs a pH around 5.5-6.5 for maximum stability and absorption. Our Vitamin C Serum is water-based and has a thin, gel-like consistency that absorbs quickly and easily into skin. We recommend massaging between 2-4 drops into freshly washed skin that has been gently patted dry. You can adjust the amount to suit your skin's needs." Whether or not this is from the actual company or counterfeit, idk but hopefully this helps.

What is the percentage of vitamin C in this?

I wrote the company regarding the question on percentage of VItamin C and this was their response (which seems acceptable to me): "Because we use a different form of Vitamin C than most companies and a different concentration is needed, we don't put the percentage on the label. Most companies use L-ascorbic acid; however, it has some disadvantages when compared to other forms of Vitamin C that are now available. For one, L-ascorbic acid is very unstable and it oxidizes quickly. It is also not easily absorbed through the skin's lipid barrier so a high concentration is needed (usually 15-20%) to make an effective product. At this concentration, while it slowly absorbs, L-ascorbic acid can cause irritation and acne outbreaks for those with sensitive or acne-prone skin. So, while L-ascorbic acid has been around for a long time and it works for some people, we feel that there are better forms of Vitamin C now available. The form of Vitamin C that we choose to use is called sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP). It has a salt molecule attached to it, allowing it to easily penetrate the skin's lipid barrier. Because it is easily absorbed and utilized by the skin, it is not associated with the irritation often experienced with L-ascorbic acid. Also, a lower concentration is needed for the same results, which also leads to less irritation. The percentage we use is equivalent to a much higher concentration of L-ascorbic acid because it is more bioavailable (comparable to a 15-20% L-ascorbic acid serum). It is also phenomenally more stable, allowing longer shelf life, even once it has been opened. Although most people purchase our Vitamin C Serum to heal sun damage, brighten the skin, and reduce discoloration/ age spots, SAP has also been shown to treat acne and reduce the appearance of acne scars. We also add Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid to double the photo-protective qualities of the Vitamin C (as demonstrated in a recent study at Duke University). We have won several awards for our Vitamin C Serum and it was dubbed the "Glow-getter serum" in InStyle Magazine and "a miracle worker" in Allure magazine in the last year."
