Better than expected
I always get worried when I buy used books but this was just as it was described! It had a note on the front cover, which was stated up front. The rest of the book was it too condition! We used it to make oobleck at school and loved it!

Bartholomew and the Oobleck
This is a great story with a couple of good lessons. We see 'magicians' who admit they don't know exactly the consequences of what they do, a vain ruler who thinks he order change for his own pleasure but not realizing the consequences, and the presence of a sensible youth who works to save his fellows and with the king to change his precipitous order. The magic words are kindness. I don't know if the author was thinking of pollution when he wrote it, around 1904 I think, but some results of industrialization were already affecting people adversely. So I give this 5 stars. I like the illustrations, nothing scary, very whimsical and humorous. I was not scared when I was 6 and my dad read it to me. Children like ooey gooey stuff, like that horrible green silly putty. As an adult, it's still fun to read, and kind of timely.

Fun book but has nothing to do with the science experiment
If you like Seuss, you'll like this book. It's got the fun rhyming/sing-song read to it.My child commented that it needed more color. All in gray, except the oobleck. I get it as an adult. Makes the oobleck stand out, but the lack of color makes it not as interesting for kids.Bought this because I was teaching about making oobleck, the substance that is a liquid when not under pressure, but a solid when punched/under pressure. Had no connection, so couldn't connect them. Just putting that out there so the expectation isn't there for someone else.

Super Fun Read for Toddler
We are loving this book! We loved the 500 Hats and this one is such a fun read with my 3 yr old toddler. It is a bit long and so I use a bookmark for when he falls asleep and then we continue reading it the next evening for bed time! Love it!

I used the idea of the book and made up my own story that was all quite fun and very positive
I had a plan for this book! I have a very precocious 3 yr old grandchild who crafts and paints and does things beyond his age. I had planned to read this book to him and then have an adventure where we either made or I had waiting a sample of Oobleck. I found the book to be a bit too long and too involved for a 3 yr. old; maybe even some parts that might be a little scary. Instead, I used the idea of the book and made up my own story that was all quite fun and very positive. In my story the good King left a sample of Oobleck for my grandchild as a special gift. My idea turned out great. I would recommend the book for an older child and incorporating the idea of making your own Oobleck would be like frosting on the cake!! You can find the recipe on the internet, very easy!

Not quite what I expected
It wasn't quite what I expected. It was recommended on an American Children's site, but the content is for older children, and I intended to read it with my 3 year old granddaughter. I shall have to put it by until she is much older.

... and water (and a little food colouring for extra fun! ) - children absolutely loved it
Read to my class before making our own oobleck using cornflour and water (and a little food colouring for extra fun!) - children absolutely loved it!

One from my childhood
A good lesser known Seuss book. Not one of his tongue twisting rhyming romps, but a great imaginative story with a classic Seussian moral - be careful what you wish for! Lots of fun to share one from my childhood with my own son.

an old favourite
I purchased this for my grandchildren, as it was a favourite when I was their age. It is an unusual morale tale told in Dr. Seuss's inimitable style.
