Q: What size (AWG) are the wires?

Geez, I don't know, but it's very very thin. Like 24 maybe? You have to be very careful but if you use connectors you don't have to strip the wire. Bottom line is that they all worked find for me.

I would never use any smaller than AWG 24 color-coded gauge wire on model mini accessories such as these ; any smaller wire is too difficult to work with .

Q: What do I need exactly to power them on ? I was thinking a linker plug but I’m not very sure please help

I don't believe that is the best way to go, but it would work provided you had a 3 volt power supply. I purchased a small circuit card that is designed to take different input voltages and then reduces the voltage and has a series of output terminals for 3 volt, 6 volt, etc. It will power 3V LED and 6V conveninal gain of wheat bulbs. The instructions that come with the board are very easy to follow.
