A FAVORITE FUN FAMILY MOVIE.
This DVD arrived in perfect condition. It is a favorite of my adult son who has special needs. Because he is not gentle with DVDs and has owned multiple copies, I am pleased at its online availability and reasonable price.

A Must have Region Free Import (Lacking Extras) But, better then the old dvd
I love this film (Seen it countless times while growing upIt's still to this day one of the Smartest Written Disney Films everIt gets dismissed by Sci Fi fans/ time travel fansIt's in the same league as The "Original" Back to the FutureThe film is pretty simple a boy is chasing his little brother in the woods fallswakes up 8 year in the future (but, his fall seemed like it only lasted a quick moment)He goes home unaware this is NOT the same home he left only a few min priorand the story picks up and goes It's 90 minutes and it's a quick 90min.They got a whole lot of Story and F/X throughout the filmThe UFO which is Both Practical effect and early CGI looks really good most of the timeI think it's held up as good as it has due to the fact they used Both Practical & CGIThe cast was goodJoey Cramer was a good child actor that did a few Big Studio Films then diapered from acting all together (which is a Shame cause he was good for someone that young) But, looking back at the track record of Hollywood Child Stars he did what was best for him Veronica Cartwright as the Mom (Great Casting a truly under-rated actress that can do anything!) She was in the first Alien that makes her a Rock Star in my eyes... I always felt her roll as Helen Freeman David's mother was so great (Maybe one of the most under-rated mothers in the 1980's) Cliff De Young as the Dad (Much like casting Veronica Cartwright perfect father) he too has been around a while and can do anything I always loved him in this flick Cause he's the dad I'm sure every kid want!Sarah Jessica Parker (Young Adult) it's interesting to see her in this film she's pretty young it's after Square Pegs so she's grown into a young woman Her performance isn't anything special but, It's interesting to see her at this age (The first time i seen this film i thought she was very pretty) Who would've thought she would've become a massive star in the mid to late 90's into todayHoward Hesseman (He was a odd choice mostly due to the fact he always played a lovable beatnik hippie on tv) In this he's simply a Bad guy that use a 12 year old boy for his own self reasonsand last but, not least the great Iconic Paul Reubens as the Space Ship's AI Maxvery smart casting I'm pretty sure this was his first v/o work and it's amazing how good the final product turned outhe would later do a laundry list of v/o work!If you never seen this and you are at least 21 or so shame on youHow could you have never seen this simple but, enjoyable family Sci Fi flickSecond Sight is this very cool little Distrusting House (Much like Twilight Times) some of there releases are Region B though But, there prices are Not anywhere Near the high mark-up price TT is)The Audio Commentary with Director & Producer is very cool it's a very cool ExclusiveIf this does ever get a Region 1 (US & Canada Blu Ray Release i doubt it'll have this Commentary track)If you grew up loving this film it's a real buried treasure being on Blu RayIf you buy it from various sellers you can snag a copy for around $14.99 it's worth itThe PQ is really nice the Disney DVD actually was leaps and bounds next to the VHS Home video versionHad the old VHS it had lines from pausing through out the tape I watched the vhs version a lot) I'm not even sure if it's playable now?So the HD Blu Ray version is at least 5x better as far as PQ if you compare it to the DVD2.0 PCM audio is better then the 2.0 on the dvd (I really wish it was 5.1 Cause the film has so much going on in different scenes it could benefit having better surround soundIt's one of those strange films from the 80's almost everyone seen But, people don't remember it's nameIt's held up, there are very small things that make it seem dated some of the clothes, hairstyle and the rock band Twisted Sister is brought upFor a 1980's Disney film there is some language but, it's Nothing majorIt's really under appreciated still to this dayAll those children of the 80's should introduce there kids to this filmThis Blu Ray is a true must have to add to any Collection 8.5/10

nostalgia classic with a great commentary
This (Blu-Ray) is definitely the best the film has ever looked. Yes, there is grain but it doesn't matter here. The 80s were an experimental time for cheaper film stock and optical/digital effects. The grain is 'of it's time' and shouldn't hinder any enjoyment of the film. The film had a troubled production and its great to see it, in great condition, with the added bonus of a director commentary. Speaking of which, the commentary is very informative and a worthwhile addition. From the opening credits, to the end titles, the Alan Silvestri soundtrack excels and has never sounded so good. The film may be 2.0 audio but that can be ok. My amp made good use of all speakers in 'theatre dimensional' mode and the 80s synth made good use of the subwoofer. An excellent upgrade for fans of the film and usually at a bargain price.

A must for anyone born in the 80's
Does it get more magical than this? It ticks every box for a 80's film. It's 1978 and 12 year old David Freeman is knocked out after taking a tumble in the woods. He wakes up and heads for home only to discover his family no longer live there and that it is now 1986 not 1978. What follows is a great adventure film which really doesn't kick off properly till the last 45 minutes so for the first 45 minutes you get a great build up for what is to come.As far as the Blu-Ray release goes im very happy with it. The 1080 HD transfer is brilliant to look at with plenty of new scenes to take in due to the upgrade. The only extra is a Audio Commentary by Director Randall Kleiser and Producer Jonathan Sanger. Its a nice little release which may get a bigger edition one day but hard to tell whether we will see a new interview with Joey Cramer seeing as he was in a spot of bother not long ago. Hope he is well and comes back and does an interview about this classic piece of 80's cinema. Definitely buy this.

GREAT 80'S FILM
Great to have a Director's commentary and hear all the story's and back ground info of a film I grew up with. It's just a shame though that the kid (Joey Cramer) ended up in trouble & then more trouble, It must be a burden being a known face from celebrity then end up working in a shop & everyone persuming you're a has been. Still this one of those eighies films that kids could enjoy now, it has a great score from Alan Silvestri that differs completley from his Predator Score of the same year. The great HD picture does allow for strings and wires to show up on the creatures, that on vhs got hidden in the poor picture quality. All in all a great film worth watching.

Superb film but a below average transfer to Bluray
As a life-long fan of the film I was excited to finally see it come out on bluray as my dvd copy has a very low picture quality. Sadly very little love has been shown by those in charge of this release as the film is peppered with film scratches and other blemishes. It is at least better quality than the dvd but barely qualifies as HD in my opinion. Extras are non-existent which is a shame too. Would it really have cost that much to interview some of the creators involved and cut it into a 10 minute doc for the fans?If the remake happens I suspect they will do a proper job of this bluray as they did with Tron.
