Good introduction to the works of R K Narayan
Bought for my daughter and I read it too. I must confess I never quite understood or enjoyed R K Narayan's works that much: there was a split personality about his stories which I could never follow. On the one side there are simple and hard hitting stories (like "The Doctor's Word", which is NOT in this book) and then there are others (like A Tryst at the Temple) where I could not quite understand what the point was. Then, some of the characters (and situations) are exaggerated to such an extent that they become caricatures and we move from the sublime to the ridiculous in the space of a few sentences. But as an introduction to his work this seems to be good - a few original short stories along with extracts from a number of his novels.

Good presentation from a great writer
I bought it for my 10 year's old daughter. She is enjoying it to full extent. I want to see that she grows the reading habit in her instead of getting hooked to mobile.

Buy a dictionary along with this book....
Indian writers like to prove that they know English too well and thatswhy they use words last used by Shakespeare while composing a book. This is such a book. They use words that are not used even by the British. Order a dictionary along with this book if you want to understand the stories....
