Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2 Ice Fishing Reel & Rod Combo

I bought this to supplement my ultralight and med-heavy ice fishing poles this year. It is a GREAT middle of the road pole that is light enough to hook crappies and heavy enough to drag up legal lake trout without complaining. I caught a bunch of stocked browns and rainbows in Maryland and then caught a half dozen keeper lake trout in northern NYS too. Respool it with premium 6 pound fluoro line and you’ll be in good shape for whatever bites.

There is not a better ice pole for the money. These poles are strong but sensitive on the tip so you can see light nibbles when fish are either suspicious or not really hungry. I've caught fish over 5 pounds on the medium ugly stick ice pole and prefer it over most all poles I've used.I would not only refere a friend to this, but would refere this pole to you if you want a pole that is strong enough for hard hitting large fish, but want the sensitivity of a light action pole.Good luck and happy fishing!

Although it is for ice fishing, works perfect for my 4 year old. He caught his first fish the first time we used it.

For the price this is one of the best ice combos out there. It is smooth and durable and works very well. I have landed quite a few 1 pound trout on it and lifted them all out of the hole as high as I please without questioning the durability. It is sensitive enough to feel even some softer perch bites. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a solid, durable ice combo!

I've used ugly sticks for yrs now on the mighty saginaw bay and have yet to have one fail!! i actually troll with them just as i buy em from walmart! even the Shakespeare reels hold up draggin crawler harnesses and ddhj's with 2oz bottom bouncers! pulled in many 6+lb walleyes and many 10-15lb catfish, and the rods and reels held up great!! this will be my first ugly stick on the hard water(ice) and I'm fully expecting the same results! this gx2 arrived ahead of schedule and was in 110% perfect condition! I'm looking forward to hittin the ice this yr, and I'm confident that this rod and reel combo will work just as good as my $100 st Croix! very happy and satisfied with item and seller!!!!!!

This pole is awesome. I had so much fun bringing in redfish on this pole. The casting sucks but it is a ice fishing pole. I would recommend to everyone just for the fun of being that big fish in on the little rod.

I ordered this rod last month, when it came in, the top of the rod was snapped, so I ordered a replacement rod. The replacement rod came in today. I didn’t even have to take the packaging off the replacement rod to see that the top of the replacement rod was snapped as well. I was very disappointed. I would’ve really enjoyed using it on my adventures and would have made it easier for me, but I guess that will not be happening :/

We all know ugly sticks are durable and for the price can’t beat it. But I will say I picked up the medium rod, it’s more like a light action rod. Not stiff enough to be considered medium by long shot. Rod is a better light action rod for pan fish. But wasn’t what I was looking for jogging heavier jigs for walleye in deep water. But rod is a nice combo and I’ll still be able to use it perch fishing n what not

Love the Ugly Stik line. I bought the MH 30" rod.Rod is solid and reel is well made even though it's only a single bearing.One day, I was fishing and was pulling in a 30lb pike when this bear comes out of nowhere. With the fish still on the line, I started to swing the rod and started smacking the bear into submission. To add insult, I whipped the pike into the bear's face several times until he whimpered and slowly sulked away. Ugly Stik for the win. Now that didn't actually happen, but imagine it did.

I fish for Whitefish and Lake Trout and need a med/heavy rod to feel the lure, bottom, and the soft taps of Whitefish. I have other rods that have a little more consistency in the flex from butt to tip and they work great. This rod is a bit too stiff at the base and too soft at the tip, this is more characteristic of a fast action rod so I was not quite expecting that. All in All still a great little rod and reel combo I would definitely recommend.

I've never been ice fishing before. with nothing to do and living in MB, I decided that this was something that I was going to try. so I selected this rod based on reviews. 10 min into fishing I was pulling my hook out of the water to check my bait and the hook caught the ice, so I tug a little and the tip bent / broke.The next day I went to Cabela's to purchase a new rod. I asked the sales guy what he best rod was and he said an ugly stick. I went up to the rods with him and seen the exact same rod. I bent the tip with my finger and the tip broke off....not a good product

Bought this rod for my old man for Christmas. I used it so much I bought one for myself! Light action for 2-6LB range fish, very fun to fight fish with this rod! I recommend for anyone that fishes in that size range. I've even brought in a 9 LB rainbow with it but I let it run forever to tire it out but man this rod is tough!
