Q: can these lights be connected directly to an existing low voltage transformer and eliminate your driver, ?

Most low voltage lighting systems that you buy from the big box stores have a output of 12-15v AC from the transformer. AC current is the issue if you connect directly to those transformers. These lights use 12v DC. You will need to also buy a AC to DC converter (several sold here on Amazon, just do a search and make sure it will cover the Amps that you need (the size of the converter just depends on the number of lights you are connecting to it but always buy larger as to avoid early failure of the transformer). The problem you will have if you connect directly to the landscape lighting transformer is the AC power will prematurely caused these lights to fail (or may even have a slight strobe effect if to many are connected because they are DC lights (all LED lights are). The lights will work on that AC power but it will cut the life of the bulbs by more than half. The converters are pretty cheap and usually only run $30+/-. I hope this helps. I just connected all of mine yesterday. I would also recommend purchasing a dimmer for these lights if you use them on stairs because they are very bright and actually “cover” the stair treads because of the glare. Once I connected the dimmer it worked perfectly. I attached a video showing the dimmer working and hopefully It will give you a better understanding of what I was trying to say.

If you take the 118 inches to the first light and the distance between each light(39.5 inches), you get about 62.5 feet long

The cable length between 2 lights is nearly 39.5inches. But the first light from the driver plug will be 118inches.
