StrongArm 6332 Acura MDX, Hood Lift Support , Black

These are quality struts made in the USA. They fit my 2005 Acura MDX. However, it's not an exact match of the OEM 74145-S3V-A01, which has a straight head on the shaft side and a slightly beveled head on the socket side. On the other hand, Strongarm 6332 has beveled head on the shaft side and straight head on the socket side, which led me to wonder for a moment if I should install it up side down as one other person commented here in the past. In the end, I installed it in the same old way with the shaft side up under my hood. Overall, the replacement fitted fine with no complaint. It's a very strong and quality strut at half of the OEM price. Hope it lasts as long as the OEM did.A convenience tip for installation: install the shaft side first (top for the hood), then you can grab the socket side and twist it a bit to fit.My OEM strut has Stabilus stamped on it, which implies Sachs SG265001 might be the exact fit.

As I worked on my Acura MDX one day, the hood fell and almost closed on my hands. Finally figured it was my hood struts which had finally given out. Took it to the shop and was told it'd be 140$ for the parts and "labor". Decided that seemed ridiculous and from then on I decided to use a 2x4 to prop the hood up. It became a pain, then I came across these replacement Hood Struts and for 30$ (x2 15$ each one) bought them. Took me about 5 minutes to replace using only a screwdriver. Closed my hood and opened it a couples inches, then up it went on its own with a good amount of power. Even when the old hood struts were in good shape, they didn't open as well as these. 10/10 would recommend

5 minutes to install, took more time to open the package and get the screwdriver. One piston holds the hood on my 2011 Acura MDX when two would not before. Hood now snaps to attention when released but, time will tell on longevity. There are cheaper ones but, these are half the cost of OEM and direct replacements. Worth the extra $ over cheaper alternatives I believe.

This hood lift was very easy to install and works great. All I needed to install it was a small flat head screwdriver to get the clips for each end off. I supported the hood with my head for the 2-3 minutes it took me to change one out, but you might want to find a friend to hold the hood up for you :-)I ordered two lifts, but it turns out I only needed one. Keeping the other on-hand if the other goes out, rather than return it. They way I knew I only needed one was listening closely to the sound they make when lifting and closing. If one is silent and the other makes a hydrolic sound, you only need to replace the silent one. If there is no hydrolic sound when lifting the hood, you need to replace both.

It took 5 minutes to replace the original equipment. I should have ordered 2 units but the hood does stay open now without worrying about hitting my head when I am under the hood.

It's a "no brainer." You only need a screwdriver and something to prop up the hood. With the tip of your screwdriver you need to pull the metal retainer out just far enough to be able to pull the ball out from its socket. Then look and behold! Your hood will be as it should
