Is the 7/8th inch the outside measurement of the molding ?

The 7/8" molding I received actually measures just under 1", about 31/32" when pressed flat. My old molding was truly 7/8", so this bulges up too much.

What does the 7/8" width signify? Is that the flat width of the vinyl strip or the wisth of the track it fits into?

That’s the width of the vinyl. Measure both to find the best fitting trim for your application.

Do you have this product available in translucent or clear? i want to throw an led strip behind it.

Haven’t seen that. Only two colors I’ve seen is whit or black. Clear will probably not last long before it gets “foggy” or turns yellowish and you won’t be able to see through it.

What do I measure to know the size I need?

Scroll to the bottom of the purchase item and it displays the measurements in a diagram. You’ll measure the outer edge of the insert molding at 7/8” to match the channel depth where the molding goes also 7/8”
