how does the filter remove?

You simply lift the blue tab and the slip coupling is free to remove/install. Very serviceable design - EASY!

What is a source for the exact o-rings to install? Part Number? Where to buy?

Any decent hardware store has the O rings. Take the old one to the store and match them.

What kind of fitting is on the other side that we can't see from the picture?

This is a in line filter it plugs into the pump and the hose that came out of the pump plugs into the filter.
