Worth every penny!
I have been looking for a book like this for a long time! A wonderful step by step guide, on how you can teach your child creative writing with examples and great ideas. This book would also work for older children (13+) who find english challenging. I will be buying the other books in this series.

A very helpful book!
This book is packed with helpful ideas for story writing and has inspired my child to start writing. Would without hesitation recommend this book to anyone who has a child struggling to write. I have found no other book as helpful as it really deals with the issues my child was struggling with like no other book I have come across.

Good content but poorly designed book.
I bought this book to help my daughter- the content is good but the real problem is using the book itself- each page is typeset in multiple sizes and styles of font making it very jumbled and difficult to read, there are mistakes (e.g. top of p.31) and the book is difficult to open (the pages in my copy not held flat in the spine giving a crinkled look). The illustrations look hurriedly hand-drawn. The photo on the front cover is blurred. It gives the impression of a home-produced book, but useful advice inside. The "look inside" feature does not reflect the layout of the book I received from Amazon- the page "let's plan a story" in my copy was far less clear.

A disappointment and embarrassment
I am a tutor and bought this book for one of my students who really struggles with being "creative" in her writing. I was relying on this book to offer her ideas but in the end I was embarrassed that I'd given it to her. As other reviewers have commented, the layout is awful, the font goes from tiny to gigantic seemingly at random, and my student was quite right that, despite her being a terrible artist, she could probably do a better job than whoever did the illustrations. The ideas are bland and simplistic (usually involving someone/something getting lost). Moreover, there are lots of mistakes which I really think is unforgivable in a book which is supposed to be improving children's writing. However, if you have bought this book and are finding the same problems as me, we found a way around them. Instead, I encouraged my student to explain what was wrong with the stories and ideas in the book, to find the spelling errors and correct them, and then to write a better version of the stories! It actually ended up inspiring her in a way, but out of sheer indignation - not really what I had had in mind when I bought the book....

Great book for creative writing
This book is great for piecing together the key ingredients for creative writing. My son's writing has certainly improved after doing a couple of exercises in the book. The book focuses on how to plan a story, the use of verbs-adverbs-adjectives. There is a good sample of adjectives for describing the weather and characters in your story for example as well as on setting the scene. I like the print as it's large so my son can easily read through several pages without feeling overwhelmed. With every section the child gets to attempt his/her version of the story. I will certainly be looking at other books in this series.

Poorly presented - and full of mistakes
I bought this book, which was not cheap, on the strength of the reviews. I was very disappointed. The layout and presentation is really poor, and there seems little structure to the content. There are a few good bits - but there are also mistakes in punctuation and grammar. The themes explored are simplistic - and definitely not suitable for an older child.

Age grouping too high
excellent for younger age groupings but not for ages over 12
