Showdown in Western Sahara Volume 1: Air Warfare over the Last African Colony, 1945-1975: 31 (Africa@War)
C**Y
Obscure Colonial Air War
The various roles of aircraft in the period 1945-1975 in the Western Sahara may have passed by those of us whose concentration was on French Algeria. This book goes better than its title by going back to the first aircraft used in the Rif mountains and by the French and Spanish in their various colonies. The resistance of the Moroccan and Saharan tribes was so strong that often only air support could be used as a force multiplier by the colonial powers. By their nature the Moroccan and Mauretanian air forces depended on charity to bolster their non-oil economies with the result that the older prop driven models were in use. This is an excellent introduction by the ever-interesting Tom Cooper.
