Icebreaker Merino Men's Standard 175 Everyday Short Sleeve Thermal Cold Weather Base Layer Crew T-Shirt

In preparation for a recent trek to Saudi Arabia for a wedding my research helped me skeptically try out a couple of wool t-shirts. After a lifetime of cotton propaganda I convinced myself I had little to lose. Both of these shirts performed incredibly well with respect to managing sweat and, especially, odor. However, of the two, after two hand washings (hanger dried) this shirt ended up with a noticeable stretch at the shoulder because of the hanger. Fortunately, after another washing (and, of course, after laying it flat to dry), this shirt mostly bounced back and all is good.Nonetheless, I have so much more to say about the other shirt (Merino Protect brand) available at the time of this review at nearly half the price. My review about this other product is also posted.Bottom line, this Icebreaker brand at the $47 price I paid at the time was a good value. However, as the price for this brand’s shirt has gone up significantly only thirty days later (now at $74), the other brand tested above not only performed better, it’s currently available at around half the price.For the record, this shirt performed outstandingly well. In fact, despite its black color I never overheated. Additionally, whereas I’ll nearly never wear any shirt more than one day, I had a choice to either wear this shirt a second day or wash all of my shirts I brought with me on vacation. Even my wife exclaimed she could not smell any significant odor by the end of that second day. Astonishing.So, yes, it’s a great shirt. There are better options at lower prices elsewhere in my humble opinion.And, of course, I'm only going to be wearing wool t-shirts in hot weather moving forward. I had no idea.

The shirt is fine and arrived undamaged and with tags. Unfortunately, it was covered in dog hair which is just gross. I’ll keep it and wash it, but seriously?

T-shirt is thin but fit for me 175cm, 70KG, good quality. Less cost will be better.

Great shirt. Fits snug to my body but not tight and it's not super itchy at all. Still gives you an occasional itch but nothing crazy that makes you hate it. Looks great, very stylish and helps keep you warm under a sweater or jacket

Can’t go wrong with icebreaker

I wear these icebreaker Ts for trekking and motorcycle riding. They soak up the sweat and don't smell even after a few days. They dry very quickly stopping me getting cold. I don't wear anything else now. Natural materials ate kind to my skin.

I love this shirt, perfect fit for me. I had some other Icebreaker and Smartwool shirts before and this is just as good. It's less expensive than in the store unless there is some special discount going on at the store. I just bought another... really happy with the fit and know it will last for a while. I'll update this review after a few months.

Merinowolle gilt ja gemeinhin als Geheimtipp unter Wanderern und vor allen Dingen bei Thruhikern / Long Distance Hikern, da es Gerüche nicht so ganz annimmt.Zunächst habe ich es natürlich gewaschen, mit Wollwaschmittel bei 30° und nur 600 Umdrehungen beim Schleudern, danach natürlich nicht in den Trockner.Hat alles super geklappt, das T-Shirt lässt sich angenehm tragen, kratzt nicht und fühlt sich für mich viel besser an, als die Baumwollshirts die ich bisher primär getragen habe.Wobei man sagen muss, dass ich gerade in einer Abnehmphase bin (20kg sind schon runter 15kg folgen noch) und das T-Shirt durchaus nicht locker sitzt. Aber da es schwarz ist kaschiert es eigentlich alles sehr schön. Ich habe da andere körperbetonte T-Shirts die ich nicht anziehen würde, dieses hier schon.Dann habe ich es direkt vier Tage am Stück getragen, um mal zu schauen, wie gut Merino wirklich so funktioniert.Am ersten Tag war ich direkt mit T-Shirt joggen.Das ging sehr gut, da ich relativ leicht schwitze war das T-Shirt nach den 30 Minuten auch gut durch und hat dann ca. eine halbe Stunde gebraucht um wieder zu trocknen. Danach war es aber in keinster Weise unangenehm und hat auch nicht gerochen.Ich habe es dann den Rest des Tages anbehalten.Zum schlafen habe ich es dann allerdings ausgezogen und es aber am nächsten sofort wieder angezogen.An diesem Tag habe ich eine 12 km Miniwanderung durch den lokalen Wald gemacht. Da ich gerade noch am Anfang meiner Wanderleidenschaft bin, war das für mich auch schon ein recht schweißtreibender Trip (unser Wald ist sehr hügelig) und dementsprechend habe ich auch geschwitzt natürlich besonders da, wo der Rucksack am Rücken saß.Auch nach der Tour (war als ich zu Hause war schon quasi wieder trocken) habe ich das T-Shirt anbehalten und am nächsten Tag war ich dann wieder damit joggen.Am vierten Tag schließlich habe ich Freunde an dem T-Shirt riechen lassen und gerfragt, ob irgendwas auffalle, was verneint wurde. Als ich dann die Geschichte der letzten vier Tage erzählt habe wurde überrascht geguckt, das würde man dem T-Shirt null anmerken. Ich selbst habe auch keine störenden Gerüche wahrgenommen.Das war schonmal sehr positiv.Jetzt muss sich natürlich zeigen, wie sich das T-Shirt im Langzeittest schlägt. Ich denke dass die Wolle etwas empfindlicher sein wird, wenn man sich damit durch die Wildnis schlägt sollte man bei Gestrüpp und Unterholz besonders vorsichtig sein.Ich plane spätestens im übernächsten Jahr einen 1000km Trip zu machen. Der ursprüngliche Plan war dorthin drei von diesen T-Shirts mitzunehmen. Das Gewicht in XXL beträgt 173 Gramm.Davon soll eines zur Schlafgarnitur gehören (sprich ich ziehe es nur nachts zum Schlafen im Schlafsack an) und zwei für den täglichen gebrauch, wobei ich ja nach Wassersituation plane ein T-Shirt 2-3 Tage zu tragen, dann zu wechseln und wenn ich zwischendurch die Möglichkeit habe die T-Shirts per Handwäsche zu waschen dann genau das zu tun.Für kürzere Tripps vorher (Tageswanderung oder auch 2-3 Tagestrips) sollten 1-2 dieser -Shirts reichen und auch im normalen Nichtwanderalltag trage ich sie bisher sehr gerne.Bin mal gespannt wie es Belastungen durch z.B. den Rucksack übersteht, aber Stand jetzt ist es mein Nummer 1 Base Layer. Als 2nd Layer kommt dann eine Fleece Jacke drüber, damit sollte ich im Sommer für das meiste gut gerüstet sein.Ich hoffe meine Rezension war hilfreich, ich werde sie dann ergänzen sobald es mehr zu berichten gibt.

Genial!!! Great!!!! 100% lana merino. Suave, muy bien costurada, entallada, con el detalle de la marca bordado en la manga izquierda. Muy suave y tolerante con la piel. Icebreaker es de lo mejor!!
