Q: will this filter out dead algae? or does it pass right through it? does the filter have a micron rating?

It will get the dead algae, its not a screen like the one that comes with your vacuum. The best I can explain it is that it's like and air filter around the edges of the basket.

Q: How do I install fine filter. I lost my instructions on how to install the fine filter. I have the fine filter along with a small black attachment.

There are two screws that hold in the old black bracket on top same area where the basket set. I did not remove it and replace it with the one that came with it. I believe there the same. You could remove the screws and compare them. I have not tried it yet with the one that was already there. The instructions I had was not very clear on what to do with it. So I just left the one it here that came with the unit. If I don't believe it is working correctly I will switch them out.
