Most appealing to skiers
I enjoyed this book, as I do all of Danielle Steele's recent novels. She can weave a number of characters flawlessly into a realistic storyline. This will especially appeal to those who live in the northwest and love to ski

More Than Just A Good Story
Good story about a young Olympic hopeful who becomes paralyzed due to a skiing accident. Realistic depiction of friends' reactions to someone in rehab and subsequently a wheelchair. Great examples of some of the challenges one faces who finds him/herself in a wheelchair -- trials trying to shop, trouble reaching things, frustrations due to people literally overlooking the individual in a wheelchair, etc.My Dad lost both legs -- about 2 years apart -- and he experienced many of the problems described in the book, especially returning to a home that wasn't designed for someone in a wheelchair. This book has a great story, but more importantly, it makes the reader more sensitive to the things an individual who is in a wheelchair goes through and provides tips on what one can do to assist those individuals.

When life hands you a lemon - Make lemonade!
This was a 'warm and fuzzy' book, and left you feeling good after you read it. And the title was perfect - Because even after much pain and heartache, everyone did end up a winner. I cannot imagine being an Olympic skier, than having an unfortunate accident take all that away. But Lily, who in my opinion, was definitely the heroine of this book, didn't let it faze her but got on with her life. Her father, having lost his wife, and having Lily as is only daughter, didn't take it so well, at least not at first. But we he finally accepted her limitations, and realized he could not just help her, but others, as he was financially able, it started a domino effect. Jeese, Carol, Joe, and Bill, quite a foursome. But let's not leave out Teddy, another paraplegic that had practically been abandoned by his parents at Craig rehabilitation center, still found the strength to do art, although the use of his arms were limited. The book was a win-win situation from beginning to end. Most of the characters just had to change they way they thought about life, and when they all came together, the Lily Pad was created, a rehab without the restrictions of Craig, and with the input of people like Lily and Teddy made it a huge success. Fantastic book all the way around. It makes you think of the proverbial saying, 'when life hands you a lemon, make lemonade'. That's what this book was about, making lemonade!

I would give this book a 10 star rating
This is such a wonderful book. It’s sad but so heart-warming. I couldn’t wait to finish it, yet hated to come to the end. Danielle Steel is such an amazing writer. And after reading her novels I often think they can’t get better — yet as in this case — they do.

A Winner of a Novel!
I pre read others recommendations and non recommendations of this book. I think the negative reviews were totally wrong. I have always loved Danielle Steel’s novel and am over whelmed about the number of books she has written.“The Winners” is a wonderful novel and makes one think about how people handle tragedies. I LOVED this novel!

A challenging and absorbing story.
What a wonderful story. I haven't read one of her books for a long time, and it was so refreshing not to read of sex scenes etc. which tends to go with other authors to make a good story line. Danielle Steel has once again woven into the fabric of her story some interesting characters and situations. Having worked with children in wheelchairs, I was amazed at the depth of insight portrayed here, with the hurdles the children have to face, their determination, and of course, the pain the parents go through too. The story line had it's sad moments, but so does life. How the characters worked through those situations were challenging, they felt were so real, even down to the children's' reactions for moving! Well done Danielle Steel for a great book. Well worth curling up for with a mug of coffee.

With this seller I know I will get promt delivery and the books will be as described. it seems daft to ask what I will use a book for other than levelling up a wonkey table I only use them for reading.

Couldn't put it down.
For me, the joy of Danielle Steel books is the ease of reading and the way you get lost in the emotions. This was no exception. The emotional pull starts from almost the first page and then just reels you into the story. I loved the concept and the characters and couldn't put it down until the end. Now I can't wait to start my next book

Unsure
I thought all the usual Danielle Steel weaving of a plot was there but only at the beginning! it was a rocket that then gently drifted along. I was in hospital recovering from two major operations on my hip and this was a book I could pick up and didn't really need to concentrate on. I think I need to read it again when at home maybe have a different view then!
