The best.
This is my bike bible for everything, particularly for getting ready for my first distance race.

it's OK
The information found on the book is OK, a little outdated in some parts, like the weight training section. Some examples of training plans are missing, but I guess that's not the goal of the book. It was a fun reading, but I believe it's more tailored to someone absolutely new to cycling.

Excellent book - perfect for those new to road cycling
If your looking for a book that not only coverers all aspects of road cycling (buying, maintenance, training, riding skills), but also does it in a clear concise method, then this is the book.As a mountain biker, who just bought my first road bike, I was looking for any and all the information I could find on road cycling. I have read a few magazines and bought one other book, but it did not give me the all the information that I was looking for. After buying this book, I immediately knew that this was the book I was looking for. I not only read it in a few days, but also have been referring back to it, as I have become a more experienced rider.Everything is covered: from getting "fitted" riding in the rain, the importance of riding to a 90 cadence, group riding, racing tactics, training, to maintaining your bike. It is all here. Highly recommended.

Concise book on road cycling and racing
I got back into road biking about 3 years ago to lower my blood pressure and get some stress relief. The last two years I ventured into longer rides (50, 65, 100 miles). I could complete the rides, but was feeling ... well slow, compared with the other riders. This book has taught me more about my bike and some fundamental skills. The best sections in my mind are those on exercise physiology, training, and nutrition. They quickly gave me some clue how to train, and why certain things were needed. Especially good is that the book is quite small and concise. I could read and get a lot of value from it in the first week.

Excellent book!
I've been riding casually my entire life, but when I was ready to take it to the next level and do some serious riding, I bought this book because of the reviews. I am only on page 30 and the book has already paid for itself. I understand how to communicate with the bike shop when discussing different parts of my bike and was able to do a better job than the shop making adjustments. Now, my performance has improved and I'm not getting the same knee injuries I used to for months. I strongly recommend this book for cyclists that are thinking about racing or participating in tours.

The Complete Book of Road Cycling & Racing
I was a long time runner but due to a lifting wrong in the gym suffered a bulging lumbar disc. At the advice of my doctor, I decided to start cycling, something I had never done before and had little to no knowledge of the sport. This book helped me greatly in understanding what I need to know about purchasing a bike, how to get a proper fitting, ideas on training and riding in general. Although it is geared for someone who has greater aspirations that I regarding riding/racing goals, I found the book very informative and well written. I recommend it without hesitation.

Worth every penny
I feel like I got my moneys worth and I am only halfway through the book. I have been a mountain biker for years but I am new to road biking. This book has given me some great road biking information as well as stuff I am looking forward to trying on my mountain bike.

Informative, but many poor explanations
I ride fairly regularly and I bought this book in order to get a more in-depth knowledge of the sport. I am also looking to purchase a new road bike and wanted to learn about what's available and what to look for on a bike. This book has a good amount of information, but the author tends to explain things poorly when a simple diagram or picture would do a much better job. Because of that, I found this book somewhat tedious to read.
