Perfect Ushanka that fits perfectly. Easily worth the extra $20 for the huge leap in quality.
I followed the sizing guide in the product description. I'd recommend measuring a few times before ordering because it is kinda awkward wrapping a tape measure around your head and trying to keep it level all the way around. I measured 3 times, 1 of them was significantly different so that's why I'd highly recommend doing it until you get consistent results. Then as the guide suggests, order 2 sizes (which works out to be 2cm) bigger than what your tape measure just told you.About the quality of the hat itself, it's amazing. I ordered a cheaper one before that was all faux fur, but it didn't look or feel nearly as nice as this product. It still kept my head warm, but the quality just wasn't there. This hat looks perfect from the outside, the interior stitching looks to be very well done and it all around the materials are very high quality. They also let my head "breathe" which my cheaper Ushanka didn't so it can be worn for long periods of time.I never had a hat that was measured to fit my head before so this is quite the treat for me... as someone who has been wearing elastic beanies all this time this just feels really comfortable to the point where I want to wear it inside. It also doesn't seem to mess up my hair as much when I take it off like a beanie cap always does.I got this because I wanted something warmer and more stylish than my department store beanie, and this fits the bill perfectly. I attached the Soviet Star and in my highly-Russian area, I was getting nods and stuff from strangers which felt kinda weird. I think I'll eventually take the pin off, but it attaches and detaches easily enough after the initial hole is made. I just want to keep my head warm and look good while doing it, not get into political debates down the road. I used a tiny Swiss Army-style knife to create the opening myself, and the star attaches firmly and maintains orientation no problem. It's thick material so some force is required when making the hole. But after that you can attach and detach it easily.I'm unsure if it's actual Soviet surplus from the 80s due to its great condition, but it's believable enough for me. You can clearly tell it's made with quality craftsmanship and materials and isn't a cheap knockoff, so even if the history of the hat is questionable, the quality of it isn't.TLDR;Awesome winter hat that fits perfectly if you follow directions. Great fabric, looks great, feels durable, and will keep you warm. Easily worth the extra $20 for this huge leap in quality.

Awesome Soviet hat
This kept my head and ears warm during our 2018/19 Cleveland winter, even those couple days when it was -20c with the polar vortex. Genuine Soviet surplus, mine was stamped inside with, among other things, Babyansk(Belarus), 87 (made in 1987, and the stamp of approval OTK. Very well made hat, it will feel a bit scratchy at first but after a week or two of being outside in the weather it became super soft. The ties are not long enough for me to tie it under my chin, I just tuck them into my jacket, or if you have friends, they should be able to tie them for you. Overall, an awesome little piece of history that's actually useful as well.

As awesome as it is itchyFits a but snug but I expect it will wear out to an almost perfect fit after a while of use. First time seriously using it me and a friend went out shooting in the snow. While he wore his winter coat and hoodie, I wore my "Super Soviet" outfit comprising of my trench coat, this ushanka, leather/wool gloves, and scarf. Needless to say he was freezing while I almost had to take off my sweater I was so hot. Fantastic hat that keeps you warm with enough weight to remind you you're wearing it

Recommend it
One of the best purchases I've made. Its warm, its cozy, its comfortable, it has an intriguing history and its RUSSIAN made. It's tough and rugged like their vodka, AK 47's and like their tanks. If you need winter gear, look no further than Russia.

very nice
amazing that this hat is in such good condition for being made in 1983. it came with a dress pin for the hat and a smaller brown one.Pros:- really warm- color is exactly like what it is in the picture- amazing condition (like it was just issued)cons:- smaller pin than in picture- when the ear flaps are down it is tighter than when they are up- sizing runs smallall in all it is amazing. two notes though, one, mine arrived a day late, it is very difficult to get the pin into the hat.

Was too small but resizing process is incredibly easy
This ushanka was too small for me when I received it. Apparently they shrink in storage and were made in the 1980's so have shrunk a good amount. Searching on YouTube for a video on how to stretch a ushanka provided the answer though and the stretching process is incredibly simple. If you purchase this product get a size larger if you don't to go through the stretching process. Also two different insignia were included with the ushanka: the field uniform insignia and the classic red star insignia. Overall I am very happy with this product and would purchase again if I needed another one.
