Definitely magnesium
This product was a perfect replacement in my 10 gal. water heater. The earlier rod was slightly smaller in diameter and appeared almost new when we bought the RV used 5 years ago. We have lived in the RV since and the old rod was 75% gone thanks to the high mineral content of water here in Oklahoma. Reviews on similar products questioned whether the material was aluminum or magnesium. So I shaved some flakes off this one and hit them with a lighter to verify the metal. Sure enough, they flashed bright white when burning so this is magnesium. An aluminum anode might give some corrosion protection but not nearly as much as magnesium. I noticed that the old rod did not evenly react around its diameter: one side was eaten all the way to the core conductor and the other side held most of the remaining magnesium. This indicates that at some point the rod needs to be rotated a half turn. The threads are 3/4" MPT and the hex head is 1 1/16" or some equivalent in metric. I used a 1 1/8" socket with a cloth inside to shim down to the needed size. There is not much room to get a wrench handle behind the gas piping. I cleaned the rusty tank threads with a battery post brush and applied some vasiline. A little teflon tape on the rod threads and she seals up nicely.

Good for RV water heater
This anode rod is not intended for a residence water heater: we used it in an RV water heater. As such, it's good in this purpose & a good price.

Timely, both mine and the supplier....
First, this is an excellent replacement product for my Class A motor coach.Second, I've had the motor coach less than a year and just figured I would buy a spare and check out how much corrosion had happened in that time period. When I pulled it, I was surprised at the amount of sacrificial corrosion on the rod and immediately replaced it. I bought a spare and will be checking this every six months from here on.The supplier was quicker than stated and the product is well marked and packaged. It comes in a "light-tight" brown bag and I just dropped the whole bag into my spares box. Thanks!

Something like this is hard to know how it's doing but ...
Just installed it yesterday and it fit perfectly. Something like this is hard to know how it's doing but in about 6 months I'll pull it for maintenance and that will tell the story.

Looks good to me!
It appears to be of a higher quality than the ones I have purchased in the past, really won’t know much until after I install it and it’s been in for a year I replaced mine every year in my RV. Let’s wait-and-see
