OM SYSTEM M.Zuiko Digital ED 40 to 150mm F/2.8 PRO Weatherproof Lens with Dual VCM Autofocus, Programmable L-Fn Function Button, and 1.4x Teleconverter

Let me qualify myself with my Olympus journey. I am a full time professional award winning photographer who switched to Olympus after 4 bad Nikons in a row. We all know about Nikon's quality control issues as of late. I have owned many Olympus cameras, Fuji cameras, and Sony cameras (I am a mirrorless guy.) I had mainly been shooting Sony as of late but have been disappointed in their lens selection and pricing. Don't get me wrong, Sony lenses are stellar and the Zeiss 55mm f1.8 has gone down as a legend for me and many others. However, smaller lens selection and unbelievably expensive glass for the range I need pointed me to look at this Oly 40-150mm lens.So where has this journey led me? Well I have sold off all my Sony gear except one camera and one lens and I have pretty much gone back to all Olympus products. I shoot, weddings, commercial, and family portraits mainly and yes micro four thirds cameras are really that good. I am so sick of the sensor size argument. I have shot these cameras in every type of lighting environment and they have blown me away. Best part is, Olympus glass is exceptionally good and most lenses will not break the bank. Also, yes, you can get beautiful bokeh and beautiful depth of field with these cameras. I am mean really good. Good enough to earn me wedding photography awards and most importantly the respect of my clients.Now to this lens. This 40-150 lens is the M43 game changer! Yes, it is that good! Good enough to make me sell off my Sony gear like I mentioned. This lens will go down as one of the best made from any manufacturer. The build quality is exceptional. The contrast is beyond beautiful. The bokeh is buttery smooth. Sharpness is second to none even wide open. Best of all, for a 40-150 f2.8 the lens is compact and light. Yes, it is expensive but if you want a lens to bring out the best in the micro four thirds sensor look no further. Olympus cameras are blazingly fast and with this lens on my OMD-EM1 I never miss a shot and I never have an out of focus image. No back focus issues ever (you hear that Nikon?) If you are serious about photography get this lens. It will blow you away.One quick side note. I get asked from Nikon and Canon people, well don't you feel weird showing up to events with smaller cameras and gear? No, I don't and in fact the retro look of the cameras have started more wonderful conversations than I can count and my back isn't gone by the end of the day. Don't be afraid to shoot micro four thirds. Yes, a full frame sensor will get a bit more dynamic range etc but if you know what you are doing these cameras will perform just as well. This cameras truly do put the fun back in photography for me and this lens is a legend. Happy shooting and sorry for my ramblings.

I purchased this lens used and in very good condition and the image taken with it are stunning. Very pleasing results using straight out of the camera JPEGs. There is always this concept of "for beginners, this lens or that lens is good enough" as if beginner photographers cant' see the lack of resolution, sharpness or feel the build quality of a lens in their hands. The lens is for any level photographer and yes, maybe it won't be appreciated to its full potential by a beginner, but the pictures taken with it will be.People cross shop this lens with the Leica 50-200mm but I picked this lens over that one for 3 reasons:1. I love the color rendition of Olympus lenses better than Leica's. The colors are bit warmer in the Olympus which is more to my liking. The lens also produces pictures that are analog looking, for lack of a better term.2. The second reason is that the lens is sharper than the Leica throughout the zoom range when looking at edge to edge sharpness. I took pictures with medium quality lenses where the center is dead sharp but the edges get softer, and those softer edges are visible on 11x17inch metal prints from 3 feet away.3. The third reason is that the lens is just 3.5 ounces heavier than the Leica lens when you don't use the tripod mount ,which is very reasonable when taking into account the constant aperture. Everyone is praising the Leica lens for being a lot more portable, but comparing the length, weight, and diameter, the only real savings in terms of portability is the 100g (3.5 ounces) of weight. I always shoot handheld and the tripod mount is of no use for me, but the weight reduction is just a bon for me.Overall, lovely lens, wonderful pictures.

I took my recently purchased Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO Lens, purchased to use on an Olympus E-M1 Mark II body, west to Oklahoma this year in the middle of a frigid cold snap for the last weekend of quail season. Temps averaged in the single digits to low teens, with much colder wind chills. I set my camera on CA-F mode with burst shots. Extremely pleased with the super fast acquisition and autofocus, even in such cold conditions. Shots came out very clear (the first shot with the covey rise is cropped down quite a bit due to my distance from them) and I was able to take action photos of dogs while getting great shots of the scenery as well.My one complaint, and it's not a big one, is that the lens hood, when retracted, does tend to interfere with your zoom. However, I rarely, if ever, shoot without the lens hood extended. Both for photographic reasons and for simply protecting the lens. I carry my camera in a side mount with a Peak Designs slide strap, and walked through a lot of plum thickets and such, and the hood provides a ton of protection for your glass.This is a compact lens, and for a mirrorless system, it's not like your smaller lenses where you can shoot with your display as easy. It's certainly easier to shoot by raising your camera to your eye and looking through viewfinder due to the weight, but this comes natural for me anyway and it's a preferred shooting style for me.Very pleased with the lens performance. no detectible aberrations for me, and great, clear shots.

Every review on YouTube is correct. A great lens for micro four thirds. Sharp throughout its focal range. Not small until you compare it to the same focal length in other systems.

Weather proof, wide focal range, fast focusing capability in a compact size. What else could you ask for in a lens. You can feel the quality in your hands. A lens that I intend to get a lot of use from.

The perfect mid-range zoom for my 4/3rds OM-1. With the 40-150mm behaving like an 80-300mm, the lens will spend more time on my camera than any other of my lenses. Solidly built and with very smooth action, this lens is light enough that it can be carried all day without issue. The retractable lens hood is a master stroke. Given that the glass is very near the front of the camera, deploying the solid lens hood is a necessity to protect the glass. Much improved over my old Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS. You gotta love Zuiko lenses.
