just one more beginners gardening book. but better pictures than most.
i have a lot of gardening books. this is the first one that i did not read completely.. i i skimmed the last half in a couple of minutes. i bought it because it has bio dynamic in the title. i knew nothing about bio dynamic when i bought the book. i now know nothing about biodynamic.the art work is excellent. the pictures of the author and all the materials from box stores are well done. the end less recommendations for expensive stuff is thourough. that is not why most folks would buy a book on bio dynamics at least in my opinion.it is better than most quick read introductory books on gardening.i usually rate books on how much new information is in a book. books by depp, mollison, toensmeir to name a few, every word is educational. in this book every word was a re hash of a whole bunch before. borrrrring.

I WILL be a Citizen Farmer!
I love this book as it describes exactly what I have been hoping to accomplish - become a more responsible consumer and leaving the earth better than when I came to it.Detail by Detail I plan to implement the suggestions as to how I can transform my yard into a productive resource for all types of produce. The authors' sentiments for this change in lifestyle resonate with me and I look forward to the warming up of the northern climes so I can get my hands dirty.

Saving our bodies and our planet
This entire environmental food awareness revolution was started by a sandwich. According to Daron Joffe "Famer D", he was eating a sandwich and began to wonder where all the ingredients came from. The bread, tomato, etc. and conclude that he was causing too much of a carbon food print and decided to do something about it.His book is more about "Farmer D's" story, it is a guide how anyone who wants to join this good food revolution can do so. From basics on planting, planning, and creating your own garden.Farmer D has a bigger vision than growing things, but he wants to promote and build communities. He gave an excellent idea, where at your office anyone can put a basil plant on the ledge. Pretty soon, folks will come over, reminisce about the food, and before you know it, grandma's old recipe pasta sauce will be traded in the office.I loved this book and plan to share a copy with my 7 and 4 year old nieces, hopefully they will develop a green thumb and learn the lesson of becoming good stewards of the earth. It is more than growing products, but growing soil and enriching the living planet around us. I even learned that the moon has a say on the growth cycle of plants. Wow! That is amazing and you will be amazed by this fascinating book.Way to go "Farmer D"!! Bravo!

This book will change your life. I know, because the author changed mine.
Citizen Farmers blends useful tips and top-ten lists about everything to do with gardening and small-scale farming with an overarching theme of spirituality and the kind of personal groundedness that Farmer D lives and breathes. Each of the chapters presents a duality of action and metaphor, thereby making this book not only a primer for starting and sustaining transformational farm and garden projects but a guide to living the life you were meant to live, whether or not you're even interested in gardening.I know Farmer D personally. He started me on my organic gardening journey years ago, and I now grow about $2500 worth of organic produce from my home garden every year. My daughters were raised on this goodness. What's more, I've helped start community, school and food pantry gardens as a result of his mentorship. He's the real deal. He will change your life.I've read a ton of these types of books. Many are very good, but this one is different. This is one you want. Whether you are new to gardening or seasoned, you will learn something, not just about gardening, but about yourself. Trust me.Learning as I grow,Pattie Baker[...]
