Crystal Cove Cottages: Islands in Time on the California Coast

I grew up in Coastal Orange County. I miss the way it was back in the day (even as late as the 80's). Too much catering to tourists has crowded out the fun, laid back feeling of the area. This book about a specific little spot provides a glimpse of a way of life for those who either lived in the area or were at least "regulars". My aspiration is to discover a place that still gives me that vibe! The search continues...

This book captures a glimpse of a Camelot era of the California coast. Crystal Cove is an island in time, perhaps where our mothers and fathers cavorted. The books entices the reader on a journey to visit the early California coastal painters and the free lifestyles that they lived. It is beautifully illustrated with images of paintings and the cottages, some no more than shacks, that comprised this community. Long gone are the days of the martini flag and the bugle call for the first drink of the day. No more can the lowly and poor cavort on their private beaches. This is a beautiful walk through time of the best of days along the California coast. Enjoy.

This is such a unique place to spend some time, and this book really adds to the enjoyment. We have never actually stayed in the cottages, but we've browsed around in the cove many times and just spotted this book, filled with history, first-hand stories, pictures, and all sorts of things that make the past come alive. The different cottages have names, and the book gives the history of each of these cottages. Next time I go there, I will take my book along.

A great illustrated book about an area my family lived at before the war. They even mentioned the community that my family was at.

I grew up in Newport Beach, CA, and was fortunate enough to spend some time on the beach at Crystal Cove when I was a child. This book is quite nostalgic, and an excellent history lesson of early California beach life. It has great photos of the homes, the people, the era. Highly recommended!

Love Crystal Cove so I sought out this book. I was a little disappointed as I would have loved a little more history on the place and less pictures and comments on selected homes. While pictures are great I was looking for history.

Gorgeous pictures. I've been looking for this book all over the place. Glad I finally found a copy. Condition is great, everything I expected. Loved the price too.

She loves Crystal Cove and I gave this book to her while we were staying at one of the cottages there. She really like it.
