I Love It When You Smile

Physically I really love the craftsmanship of this book, it's well-made and thoughtfully designed. When I buy a printed copy of a children's book (as opposed to a Kindle version), I love when it's this kind of quality. The font for the story is whimsical and cute too, and easy to read. As a graphic designer and lover of printed books, I just had to point that out.I bought it to read as a bedtime story to my 5 year old son. It's a sweet little story, and my son and I like to cuddle up during our bedtime routine and say how much we love each other, so it fits that mood. Plus my son has told me in the past that he loves when I smile, and I've told him the same, so I thought this book would be fitting. For us it's about acknowledging that people can sometimes feel grumpy and in a bad mood, which is ok - but it's all the more special when they smile because you know they're happy and it makes you feel good when someone you love is happy.

Loved it! The story was very cute, perfect for my 4 year old who loves kangaroos! The Joey is probly in the same age group as much son cause he definitely related to the joey being in a "toddler mood" and not wanting to smile. The story is about what the mom does to try and get him to smile and be in a better mood. In the end he does and she says I love it when you smile! Very cute story!

Illustrations and story are absolutely adorable!

Such an adorable story and the illustrations are beautiful. Charles Fuge is one of the only illustrators that we have bought almost every single one of his books. They're simple exquisite. The story is about a little boy kangaroo who won't smile and his mom does silly things to help him smile. The text is longer than a young one year or two year old may sit through but it's worth it to try. There are pages where the text is very large like Word Art so it jumps out and catches the attention of the children though so it's way fun. There is one spread where you turn the book to be vertical instead of horizontal which my 2 year old adores!

My toddler cannot stop "reading" this book - she's memorized all of the words and just sits and reads it to her dolls over and over again (sometimes at 3 a.m. when she wakes up and sees it on her nightstand). I guess there's just something about kangaroos getting all muddy that she can't get enough of :)

One of my favorite books ever! Such a cute story about a crabby little kangaroo. The mother tries to get a smile out by doing many things, but it turns into something silly that gets them both laughing. Describes my serious daughter perfectly!

We love this book! This is one of my favorite books to read to my daughter and now my son. We love to give this book as a gift too.

FAVORITE children's book ever! My 3 kids loved it when it first came out; now I am buying it for all of the new babies I know!

Sweet book for adults and children

Lo he comprado de nuevo, ya que el anterior se lo regalé a una amiga. Es un cuento fantástico con un gran mensaje. Merece la pena para leerlo tanto a alumnos como a adultos

I purchased the book too early for my boy. He looked at it and moved on. I on the other hand loooved it. Love the pictures and the story. And i believe it is time to introduce it again.

Delightful story and captivating illustrations. I LOVE this illustrator! Kids and parents will both love this book.
