Is it possible to know the sell by date as of today? (4/15/19). I see this question below, but it's from two years ago.

Funny you should ask ... I recently read an article in reference to 'sell by' dates. It seems a scientist did an experiment on 'out of date' products. He used his own family as Guinea Pigs and for a full year they ate foods, such as canned goods, which were well past the sell y date on the can. No one in the family suffered any ill effects whatsoever. The gentleman suggested the FDA re-evaluate their labeling as we waste a lot of food. A any rate, the custard powder lasts as long as you keep it very dry!

i am not a cook, what do the directions say?

This product is a custard powder that I used to make Namaimo Bars. It just indicated how much to use and that is what I did. Birds Custard powder comes from the UK - there was no custard powder to be found at the grocery stores in my area so ordered it on Amazon. The ingredients are: cornflour, salt, colour and annatto flavouring. Hope this helps.

Is the Nanaimo recipe on the package?

Sorry, no it's not but you can "google" it and find it easily. This is definitely the custard powder for Nanaimo Bars. I made them 3 weeks ago as a little Canadian touch for my daughter's wedding. Hope that this helps you.

Is this the kind you can make by just adding hot water?

No. This is the original custard powder. Add milk or half milk and half water and sugar to sweeten to your taste. It’s great.

Time Travel in a Cup...!

Since childhood, I've never had any other custard but Bird's. It's like a time machine in a cup! When I was a little girl, my dad would serve it up hot and steaming when I had an upset stomach and couldn't keep food down or as a hot beverage with breakfast. It's not pre-sweetened, so you can use more or less sugar, if you prefer. Love it, love it, love it!!!

Bird's Traditional Custard Powder

This is pure corn starch, with coloring, it is better to make a pastry cream, with eggs, milk, sugar and corn starch than to use this product, which in a very personal opinion, as I have said, is pure corn starch with coloring.Besides, its taste is horrible, it doesn't even remotely resemble a good pastry cream, so forget about buying this product, it's going to disappoint you.Do yourself a favor and look for something of higher quality since this is not going to give you the result you want apart from the fact that its flavor, as I mentioned, is horrible.But hey, this is my opinion, you will decide whether or not you want to buy it, but I warn you that you will be disappointed, to such a degree that you will lose your money and throw away the product.Of course each person is different and maybe there is someone who likes its flavor or its quality but as far as I am concerned, this product does not serve as a cream or whatever you want to use it for.But well, I had to rule it out but maybe you like it and as I say, in terms of taste, everyone has a different thought.
