I used to play poker for fun when I was in college. recently, some frinds started playing penny ante just for fun, and I've been thinking of joining in. I thought, "Boy, this was a waste of a few bucks," but since I like the other books this author puts out, I kept reading and I am glad I did.The book gives tips that are mostly on teh psychological side of poker that can be used by an old player like me and would also benefit a professional. There are tips on preparing for the game, something I never thought of but it really works. There are suggestions on meditation, visualization, affirmations, improving focus and being an optimist thinking you can win. It gives you websites that give you a wealth of information about the game and forums where you can learn. it teaches you how to find a coach, mentor or guru. The book gives you courage to practice online or at casinos and explains the etiquette of each.This book goes into depth on how to watch and know your opponent. The most valuable part of the book for me was on body language and it taught me what to watch for and what not do do so I could keep my opponents from figuring out what I have in my hand. The book does go into some game strategies including the best position at the table, bluffing, how and when to check, call, raise or fold and included how to calculate odds, which was easy for even me to understand. It explained poker styles and how to play against them. I found the mistakes to avoid very informative and even thought these things are common sense, you don't normally think of them when playing. The chapter on winning hands helped me remember all the combinations and was very useful.I would recommend this book to anyone who plays or wants to play poker. It helped me improve my game and that vet bill is half paid.
