PereGuard Kayak Keel Guard 2" Width White Kayak Canoe Protective Guard Abrasion Resistance

I have not tested it intentionally, however the kayak I have was used previously and fiberglass. It had some wear marks from beach/gravel landings and I figure this will help if I have any others on the keel bottom and ultimately I did the 2". A little minimal heat from a heat gun helps to stick the edges down and work the curve. It is thick, and a 20' piece was probably about 1 1/2 pounds, but in the grand scheme of my thickness, should not matter.

I installed this strip in the bow of my canoe. After cleaning and smoothing the surface I prepped the area with the adhesive activator. Beware, this activator is important and you have to move quickly. These pads won't cover a very large area. I happen to have a bottle of 3M adhesive activator so I had plenty. After treating the area and peeling the backing of the strip I stuck it in place ... but on the curve where the bow turns upward the edges kept popping up.I was fortunate to have some Gorilla tape and I taped all the edges firmly down. After sitting exposed to the sun for a few hour the strip was secure enough to remove the tape. The strip seems to be ready now. It has been my experience with 3M tapes that the bond will strengthen even more over the next few days.So, my advice is to have some strong tape ready to help keep the edges down until the glue cures.

I purchased this to protect a new kayak keel. The item went on pretty easy as I used a hair dryer to help form the tape along the edges. The final result after initial application looked pretty good. Next two days, some of the guard was already peeling off, but was able to press it back into position and stuck. However, after the second time in the water, there was no saving it any longer. Too much debris got onto the adhesive. The worst part is all the adhesive stuck to the kayak, but separated from the guard itself. The worst portion is the area that goes along a fairly straight edge. I can understand a bend, but it should not have peeled from the straight portion. I'm going to have to try to peel this off. Hope it doesn't destroy my new kayak. Hopefully a little heat and some Goo Off will help clean everything up.

The tape went on well. The trick was to press I’d down and the add just a very small amount of heat. Heating when putting it down caused bubbles. Seems pretty tough, but it is about twice as this as other brands.

WE used a heat gun to install this keep strip. A good hair dryer would have done the trick as well. It sticks and bends to the shape of the boat as described. You must have heat resistant gloves to install. Have taken my kayak on 2 trips since then and the keel strip is fast on and works as desired.

it installed easy with a heat gun i used a sharp knife to make slits for around bends, just be careful to keep it centered because once its on it wont come off

this product is thick and went on well. I followed the instructions; used heat over the curves as well as the rest of it. It sat all winter and when I took the kayak out in June the ends were lifting. I used heat to smooth it down which seemed to work. However first time in water the ends, where the curves are, lifted. Sand and seaweed got stuck on the adhesive. I ended up trying to add glue which did not work, so finally cut it off. It is still adhering well on the straight part of keel. I plan to contact the company for replacement.I hope they come through.
