Ce gros pavé de 960 pages n'est pas à proprement parler un livre de Dominic Roskrow, mais plutôt un ouvrage collectif. J'ai préféré , et de loin, son livre  Les 750 plus grands whiskies du monde , beaucoup mieux écrit, plus intéressant et souvent drôle. Celui de Dave Broom  Atlas mondial du whisky : Plus de 200 distilleries visitées et plus de 750 bouteilles testées  est très bien aussi et ce sont ceux que je choisirais pour offrir à quelqu'un désirant se perfectionner dans le monde du whisky.Ce 1001 Whiskies n'est pas très facile à consulter ( trop épais ) et comme la majorité des livres sur le whisky, on y parle jamais de leur prix ! A croire que je suis le seul prolo à m'y intéresser ! ( quand je pense aux privations auxquelles ma famille est quotidiennement exposée pour supporter ma passion ).J'ai trouvé la mise en page assez monotone voire rébarbative. Avec 1001 whiskies sélectionnés, c'est évidemment un mine de renseignements, presque exhaustive. Mais alors pourquoi avoir oublié le Dalwhinnie ? C'est un peu comme si l'on passait sous silence Deep Purple dans une encyclopédie du hard-rock.Ce livre est donc très riche ( beaucoup de blends ou de whiskies secondaires ), mais avec des choix parfois arbitraires voire même très discutables ( Loch Lomond est systématiquement oublié ). Finalement ce bouquin tient plus du catalogue que de la synthèse et n'est pour moi qu'un complément à des ouvrages plus aboutis. I bought the hard cover book and was pleasantly surprised with Amazon's free delivery service. I bought the book on Friday and it was delivered on Tuesday.The book is a must for every whisky lover. The brief write-up on each distillery is very interesting and informative. I'm tagging the pages as I get to sample the whiskies and I even give the whiskies my own rating - lot's of fun.The book is proudly displayed on the top shelf of my bar next to the good whiskies.

I'm a new whisky lover and recently joined a whisky club (people contribute a bottle and pay some dues). I bought this book to share with the other members and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Each article has a short story about the origin and nature of the whisky as well as some tasting notes. I love that I can read a little background information about the whiskies I'm trying out. Whiskies are a lot like people -- each have their own stories and some of them are fascinating to downright bizarre. And this book is not limited to only single-malt scotches either. You will find reviews for whisky and bourbons from around the globe. In my experience, I've really enjoyed branching out to regions not known for whisky production as they produce some great flavours.Keep in mind that this is not a ratings guide like  Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2012  although it does have some basic tasting notes. You will also not find prices either (but it does have a link to the distillery's website for each whisky). So you may become excited about a particular whisky only to find that it is out of your price range.If you are new to whisky, then I suggest reading some random pages. You will learn a lot. If you like to have whisky tastings, buy this book and place it next to the bottles. Because talking about whisky is half the fun of drinking them! Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2012
