First off, the product is more than wonderful taste wise AND SO simple to prepare. I used to make my own version of this boxed option, and I was very weary of how this would taste because I thought at the time it was very cost effective. When I created my own version I of course bought my own plain couscous (I never saw these options), fresh pine nuts which are quite expensive, olive oil (or butter whatever you'd prefer), something not in this boxed option is also I'd slice up red seedless grapes, and of course minced garlic. My version definitely was much much more costly, so if course I was weary upon ordering it but why not give it a shot. When it arrived I was even more grateful at how simple and quick it was to whip up. The neighbors and I often cook for one another, and they bragged on how wonderful it was and thanked me for all my effort. They were shocked when I explained it took roughly 10 minutes and came out of a box. The 10 minutes actually consisted more of waiting for the water to boil and the cooling off. I was so thrilled with the product I decided to look into local grocery stores because I hadn't ever seen the boxed options. I live in Texas so HEB is my go to store, but I also found them at Walmart and almost all chain stores. The price is where I became unhappy with my Amazon decision. Of course at the stores that carry the boxed options (also an added tid bit is they come in several different flavors) the brand name boxes were not only slightly more in quantity, but OVER half the price. I opted for the generic and the brand options to see which would taste better, and ironically although both were yummy the store brand was better. I'm aware that many products you purchase on amazon are priced higher than if you'd go into a store, but OVER half price, I'm not impressed with Amazon's choice what so ever on this particular price gouging. Summation, find the item at your local store, and trust me, you will NOT be disappointed! I am grateful that Amazon introduced me the fact that these exist and are easy to locate.

This is a winner on many levels. It is delicious, easy to prepare, takes about 10 minutes, and tastes good every time. As a side dish it goes with many different meals. Couscous is a healthy grain, with a lower glycemic index than rice or potatoes, and it is pretty hard to wreck during cooking. I did not eat pine nuts before trying this dish, but now I love them. Buying this 12-pack from amazon is much cheaper ($1.94 per box) than buying the boxes individually at our local market ($4.25 each)!As other reviewers point out, this is still an expensive way to eat couscous, because you pay for the little spice packet, the packaging, and probably the promotional budget of Near East as well. For inexpensive couscous you can buy it in bulk, measure it out, season it yourself, plus you can throw in any spare vegetables or fruit you have on hand. If you are like me, some of those spare veggies might otherwise be neglected until they grow fuzzy, and get thrown into the compost heap.When I am tired or rushed for time, this is just the ticket for a well balanced meal. Near East has better quality than the other couscous vendors I have tried, and the pine nut is my favorite of their flavors. It might become your favorite too.

So much great flavor and no gross goopyness. I keep Atleast 2 boxes in my pantry at all times.

All of the Near East grains are awesome! This happens to be my favorite flavor at the moment, but I love them all! Quick, easy, tasty! Impress your friends!
