Blissful Marriage: A Practical Islamic Guide

This book is definitely a good book for any practicing Muslim who is looking to get married to a good Muslim spouse. The book is filled with hadiths and Quran as references and it is thoroughly explanatory in all aspects. I especially like the questionnaire at the beginning because its a good way to get to know the person you're looking to marry.

I love this book and appreciate it. I often go back a read this book for it is a great read.

Dr Ekram and M Rida Beshir the authors of BLISSFUL MARRIAGE need to be commended for writing a first class book on marriage-an institution that was once revered.The divorce statistics not only attests to this but more significantly reflect a lack of understanding on the part of the spouses on both their role responsibilty and on their inabilty to deal with issues.Romantic notions of marriage cannot dwarf into insignificance the prosaic reality .This book lucidly tackles issues that all spouses are confronted with .Instead of the home being a site of contestation -it can be a sanctuary for the couple.The Beshirs begin by reminding the reader of the objectives of marriage-which is often blithely ignored-then they move from the selection of ones life partner to the recipe for a successful marriage.The Beshirs look at family dynamics;creating a loving atmosphere;spousal obligations and self -purification .There are a number of case studies that look at some of the common problems that beset marriages.The book ends with further practical ideas on how to ensure that the marriage is indeed a blissful one.The book is not esoteric -in fact theory and practice are beautifully intertwined.The pointed references to the Koran and its exemplar Prophet Mohamed (P.B.U.H) not only authenticates the book but it is poignant reminder of the sacredness of the institution of marriage.'Blissful Marriage' makes for compelling reading.It has universal appeal.I would recommend this book to those who are conteplating marriage .A useful navigator indeed.As an exercise in self -appraisal I would recommend this book to all married couples.All in all it would contribute to enhancing the marriage.Finally ,I have no hesitation in recommending Blissful Marriage as prescribed text in our schools.It would be an an effective antidote in stemming the tide of divorces

Almost nothing we do in our lives has as big of an impact on our lives as marriage. But doesn't such a big step deserve some thought and careful consideration? "Blissful Marriage" provides an all round practical guide to a blissful and successful marriage, based on the two fundamental sources in Islam, the Holy Quran and the Sunnah (i.e. prophetic teachings). The authors present a structured guideline that a married couple can implement to nuture their relationship. The book starts with some overwhelming facts about the family crises in North America and their impact on Muslim families. It outlines the main objectives of marriage and carries a lengthy questionnaire that was specifically written to identify the main characteristics of each candidate, male and female, who is considering to get married. This questionnaire helps to ensure proper spousal selection. Then, in a very pleasant manner, the authors describe the essentional ingredients for a successful marriage. These ingredients make up the desired qualities and attributes that each spouse is encouraged to strive for. Particular emphasis is placed on the proper understanding of Qawamah and the Status of women in Islam, two widely misunderstood concepts amongst muslims and non-muslims alike. Special attention is given to Tazkiyatu Annafs (purification and cleansing of oneself) and its importance in creating a strong and capable personality. Lastly, case studies of common marital problems are discussed and recommendations on how to best deal with them are made.

This is a fabulous book that really gets to the essence of what makes marriages work.By referring to the way of Prophet Muhammad, may peace be upon him, as well as to the Qur'an, the authors have systematically addressed contemporary topics that affect both the married and singles out there.The matching questionnaires included in the book are a tried and true way to get to know a possible mate in a way that is Islamic, friendly and comprehensive. I highly recommend them for anyone going through the early stages of knowing a possible mate.Imagine, rather than ackward silences, potential couples would instead have an easy way to find out how the other person thinks about important issues that would affect their life together.Later chapters then offer excellent advice to keep marriages alive and well. Plus, the book's got humour, too, with a cute list of recipes that really work!By putting the advice into practice, couples of all faiths can discover how wonderfully satisfying it is to work as a team - whether newlywed or celebrating a golden anniversary!

As a new Muslim, I found this book to be very helpful because it thoroughly and clearly explains some of the most important qualities of a truly Islamic marriage. For example, it describes, with vivid and practical examples, how Muslim spouses must treat each other.I also found that the explanation of Qawamah was very clear and it really set my mind at ease. After reading it, I now know the importance, and feel capable, of finding a spouse who also has a good understanding of Qawamah.The book includes a questionnaire for readers to give to potential spouses. You can use it just as it is, or as a starting point for developing your own questionnaire. The most important part about it, is that it helps you focus on the important characteristics of a potential spouse.I recommend this book to all new Muslims who are considering marriage, who want a deeper understanding of what an Islamic marriage is like, or who are looking for insight into how to approach marriage from an Islamic perspective.
