Good Book.
Even though this book is now somewhat out of date it's still useful as a reference book.A New book for Linux Mint Mate is due out by someone in 2016 that I'm waiting for. Since there are only this Linux Mint 17 and one other book on this subject it's Good to have both.

Good book for Beginner Linux users
Mint is a beginner friendly Linux distribution, and this book gets you up and running without a lot of things that you would need if you were working with Linux, as opposed to home users. Instead of upgrading to Windows 10, give Mint a try.

OK, not great
There's always a conflict inherent in books like this which reference current information that is likely to go out of date relatively quickly. This leads to pressure to get the book out in a hurry, which leads to typos and missing information. This book, almost predictably, suffers from these problems. This has too much basic information for a moderately experienced Linux user, and a lot of it comes off as just an (incomplete) brief tour of the various GUI features and administration/preferences helpers. It's OK, but I wouldn't try to learn Linux from scratch based on just this book. There are rumors of an updated version of this book coming out some time in 2016; perhaps wait a bit as this book is already several Mint sub-versions out of date. Consider "How Linux Works; What Every Superuser Should Know" by Brian Ward if you want to learn more about sysadmin stuff.

A must-have book for serious Linux Mint users.
Just in time for the recently released version 17.Linux Mint is fast becoming the most popular Linux distributionand for good reasons. If you're new to Linux Mint or an old timer, this a must have book.

linux mint 17
its a bit much - but for a newbie it is some help in learning - maybe when I get it loaded and used for a whileit will be a better reference.

Good intro book
Good intro book - basic info that is helpful to new users. A bit light on admin info, but enough to get the basics.

manual tries to cover all of the various desktop versions
The fact that this manual tries to cover all of the various desktop versions, limits the depth of detail that I was seeking. A decent reference book, but I'm looking for something that concentrates on the Cinnamon desktop in particular.

Good as a general reference
It's OK as a general reference for Linux Mint, but it's outdated. Linux Mint is now up to version 18.
