A Good Story Plus Recipes, Too!
I enjoyed this book because it was about women becoming friends who had very different lifestyles and backgrounds. They learned to accept each others faults and to work together to help each other thru times of trouble. Their church was the center of their lives and the reason that they met every week. I've worked on cookbooks at the church so I know how hard it is to get people to write down recipes for you to use and they had the same problem. It's a plus to read a good story and also get some interesting recipes, too!

No Thank You, No More Slices of Cake for Me
I won't be reading any more books in this series. It was just too fluffy, cloyingly sweet and simplistic a story for me. I love the Mitford Series by Jan Karon and hoped this book would have some of the same qualities after reading all the glowing reviews. This is no trip to Mitford! Also be aware that there is a very strong religious theme throughout the book - nothing wrong with that, but I think a more subtle touch would have been a better approach. As I read this book I had the impression that it was a free book because of the quality of writing. I checked and was surprised and disappointed to find out that I actually paid for it.

OKAY
Each chapter starts with a recipe, and the rest of the chapter is an introduction of the writer of the recipe. While the story was interesting, maybe splitting up the story lessened the impact.

Disgusted
Foul language and talk of being a lesbian in the first chapter was enough to keep me from reading any further. I'm very disappointed I spent $1.99 on this book. Not like the Mitford series at all. Would not recommend to anyone. Don't buy this book.

Quiet little read
I liked the format--associating a recipe with each character--giving a figurative sense of easy-to-remember personality to the various members of the church cookbook committee. As the story gradually develops its secrets, it reveals more about each woman and keeps readers interested to hear more as events occur. It's not exciting or titillating, but the story creates and exudes a warm, generous spirit that grows deeper and lingers after you finish reading the book. I thought it was enjoyable and worthwhile.

engaging and inspirational
This book caught and held my attention. I was expecting a sweet predictable story but what I found was a very interesting tale punctuated with simple yummy recipes and very real women with very real peculiarities. This was. Definitely fun to ingest!

Good book!
Enjoyed this book - liked the theme of friends and recipes. This was well written, dealt with real life situations in a real life way. This was not cloying, but showed how friendship can develop from acquaintance to something much deeper if given a chance. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
