500 Breakfast and Brunch Dishes (500 Cooking Series (Sellers)) (500 Series)

If you like photos this is not the book for you
About half of the pictures in this book are about 1" x 1". Not big enough to see or to gauge how the finished recipe should look. Disappointing.

This whole series is wonderful!
I just love this whole collection! Not only do they look great in your kitchen as an added decor, the recipes are wonderful to prepare.

Great Dishes for Any Meal
I'm a fan of the "500 dishes" cookbooks by Sellers Publishing and this one featuring breakfast and brunch recipes is one of my favorites. It starts with a chapter on breakfast drinks, including smoothies, juices, and coffees. Other chapters include cereals and breakfast bars, breads, pastries and muffins, eggs, pancakes, waffles, and french toast; big plates, and sides and sandwiches. As is typical of all the "500" cookbooks in this series, there aren't actually that many separate recipes but more like around 100 base recipes with 4-5 variations of each one to bring the total to 500. For example, there is a recipe for bacon and egg tarts that has five variations that switch up the ingredients to include bell pepper and chorizo, sausage and tomato; bacon, swiss cheese, and onion; sundried tomatoes and olives, and crabmeat. The only recipe I've tried so far was the eggs florentine which made a nice lunch because I enjoy egg dishes for any meal. There are several others I look forward to making including jelly donut muffins, apple and pecan french toast, chili cheese breakfast casserole, several versions of granola and breakfast cookie bars, and stuffed savory ham and cheese french toast. All the recipes appear to be easy and use ingredients easily found in any grocery store. Lots of color photos are included which is always a plus.

OK But Not For Me
There are a lot of breakfast recipes in this collection but I had hoped there would be more original and unique ideas than the ones that are included..This might be OK for the novice cook or someone who doesn't usually does much cooking at breakfast time. For me, as an avid cook and cookbook author, it seemed rather ho-hum and basic, including:-Soda Bread-Banana Muffins-Raisin BreadWhat I had REALLY hoped to find were more breakfast bars/squares in this collection but those were limited to only a few recipes.Another thing I didn't like in this book was how recipe variations were listed on a separate page, not with the actual recipe. I've never seen that in a cookbook before. I'm assuming it was so the photos could be displayed on the facing page for each recipe but it didn't help with the "flow" of the text overall.I did like the smaller square book format for the hardcover version. Always a format I like and one that's getting harder to find in cookbooks.Geraldine Helen Hartman, award-winning cookbook author and columnist

This Cook Book makes me look good in the kitchen!
Carol Beckerman did a GREAT job in making so many breakfasts, so easy to make, and they taste as good as they look in the pictures! The book is a small nice size, that fits in a kitchen drawer and is easy to hide if need be...(LOL) Carol makes it easy to impress friends or that special someone, with a quick surprise gourmet style Breakfast at the last minute. I've already received a few priceless "brownie points" with this book ;) Thank you Carol! I'm looking forward to your next cook book!

Yum
I grew up on many of the dishes featured in the book. They're well illustrated with clear instructions. Whilst I wouldn't class myself as anything close to a chef, I was actually quite pleased with the end results...Carol's recipes were varied and diverse, but most importantly, delicious! Well worth the investment!

Interesting concept
A different style of cookbook that makes it easy to follow and try different varieties with each of the recipes.
