Stella: The Complete Collection series 1 - 6 [UK import, region 2 PAL Format]

I first caught this show on a US subscription service and LOVED it. Sadly, the service dropped it before the last series came out. I ended up buying a region-free DVD player just so I could buy this DVD set. Wal-Mart characters? Well, only to the shallow minded fools out there. The characters and storyline are profound and realistic, dealing with life, issues, and dramatic problems. Humour, drama, sadness, realism. By far, this is a great series and is worthy of watching. It made me laugh, scream, and cry.

James Corden, who I like, seems to have benefited more from his collaboration with Ruth Jones on their raunchy but wonderful Brit comedy series, Gavin and Stacey.But Stella, a “Pontybarry girl” Welsh woman, shows Ruth Jones’ growth, wisdom, and incredible breadth of writing quirky, weird, sometime clueless, but lovable characters. I’ve watched all 6 seasons multiple times, esp thru covid, whenever I need some comfort around me. These characters, esp Ruth as Stella, her sons Luke and Ben, Big Alan, Bobby, Daddy, Rob, Sean, Zoe, Jagadeesh, and spitfire Aunty Brenda, but almost all the other characters, too, become your own family, friends, and neighbors. The writing is sharp, acting terrific, situations funny and sometimes poignant...well, Pontybarry and its people make me want to move to Wales.And if the Dump is re-elected, I may just do that!

Stella is a wonderfully entertaining, warm, funny, sometimes dramatic show about Stella, her family, friends, and love life. I was so involved in the series, I was quite sorry when I finished. Ruth Jones is spot on as Stella, and most of the cast are excellent. One or two characters become annoying over time, such as Aunty Brenda, but in any program highlighting a large group of people, there is sure to be at least one. This is a region 2 series, so if you're in the States, you will probably need an all-region player, which you can find on Amazon. I bought one of the less expensive models and haven't regretted it; there are so many more British shows now available to me.

I love this show. I bought a region-free DVD so I could watch the DVDs. I'm just starting series six and I don't want it to end. Warm, wonderful, human characters, comedy, drama, Stella has it all.

Pure joy in watching this series. Unlike most other products today, there is no political correctness. What a wonderful relief.Day to day troubles, challenges, and perplexing issues, which are dealt with and her life continues on. A wonderful escape from all of our day to day problems and challenges without the need for drugs and alcohol.Grateful there are series like this one.

Great find. Had to convert to region 1 format but I knew what I was getting. Just happy to find the series anywhere.

I discovered this show on BBC International. I never got to see the end of the series, so I’m thrilled these discs are available at a fair price. Wonderfully odd characters populate this beautiful Welsh town that you’ll fall in love with!

Really enjoyed this box set. Was hooked after the first episode. After watching the series six Christmas special wished it had ended there as I thought some of the series six episodes were not enjoyable. However, the very last episode brought the series finale to a brilliant ending.What I didn't like was there were no mention of characters that had played an important part in the plots when the had left in the previous series. Don't want to mention the characters who disappeared as it would spoil the story line.Given three stars as the quality of the dvd's were not very good. Pixelated pictures and scenes jumping. Amazon were brilliant.

This is such a wonderful series. Introduced to it by my daughter, I watched the whole box set almost end to end. Laughter, tears, drama, pathos and a dose of sex and bad language in appropriate situations. It puts life into perspective through humour. I just wish there were more series of this quality on TV today. Ruth Jones is a truly stupendous creator and writer. Her characters are larger than life, but still very real. My personal opinion is that this series is better than Gavin and Stacey.

I bought the complete collection for my daughter and I for some nostalgic British TV viewing. We loved it! A lovely mix of drama, comedy and lovable characters. I'm glad I bought this collection rather than the one without the Christmas specials as the storyline does connect with the specials and onto the next season.

FANTASTIC SERIES. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Great writing, fab cast. Lots of sad and funny moments. Great characters that you will love. My favourite has to be Aunty Brenda! Plenty of laugh out loud moments and lots of tears in the final episode. I didn't want it to end. Please buy this, you will not regret it.

Anyone who enjoyed Gavin and Stacey should also thoroughly enjoy this wonderful community of characters in the fictional Welsh town of Pontyberry in the South Wales valleys. The story of Stella and all her complicated family relationships is not only amusing but also very moving at times. All the characters are very well cast and the actors all do a tremendous job. Highly recommended.
