Happily surprised and highly recommended!
After a very close and detailed inspection, the fit and finish of this beauty are impeccable โ it's almost too pretty to play. But, seriously it does play! The out-of-the-box set-up is great and It plays with plenty of warm tone and volume. When wearing finger picks, it's almost too loud in my 9x10 kitchen โ this thing has serious volume. I didn't bother to disassemble the guitar to inspect the inside of it. It's priced as an entry-level instrument and the fact that it's constructed with high-quality, instrument-grade plywood vs. solid wood is not a game changer for me. In fact, nearly every one of the those expensive, ultra-collectible vintage pre-war Dobro's were made with instrument-grade plywoods. It features a rosewood fingerboard with abalone fret markers and is fully bound and really quite attractive. I'm a nit-picker by nature and I've yet to find any issues with my RD-40CHS. If you're looking for a bang-for-your-buck instrument, the Regal RD-40CHS has it all: good looks, great sound. Plus, it's easy and fun to play!

Regal is an old brand that got bought out and reissued by some overseas manufacturer for those that dont know. I personally was surprised at the lack of traditional instrument manufacturers now days. Some big brands dont even bother with resonator guitars much less a squareneck.First off, there is no serial # on the dobro itself that I can find. I dont think it'll have much resale value because of this, you can't really get a lot out of a trade at a music shop because there is no manufacturing note. Kinda makes me mad because this thing isn't exactly cheap. Probably the most overpriced instrument I've bought. The mesh over the port holes looks like it came off of a drain. Its all plywood. I see in the description this in mahogany and spruce, no way! There is only one sound post on the whole guitar. The cone was set in improperly as well as the spider bridge. The tuning machines where installed unevenly and some of the screws where stripped out. The port holes where installed using wood glue ( apparently that's a nono), the guitar tech easily removed them with minimal resistance and reglued them in using the proper glue type.Comparing the sound of this guitar to other squarenecks, this in on par with about a 160$ rouge, your paying twice as much for basically the same instrument. An instrument is a tool. This is more of a toy.
