OK if you are familiar with Obihai products.. but, WHAT? No Manual?
I was excited to see the Obi508 because I needed 4 or 5 ports and wanted it all in one box. I had used the Obi202s in the past so I was familiar with the configuration and interface. This was a good thing because my unit arrived with ABSOLUTELY NO DOCUMENTATION. Not a quick start sheet, manual, CD, NOTHING. There is no documentation for the Obi508 on their website so I emailed support. Over a week later and no response from tech support. If you are not familiar with Obi products, better wait until they have some documentation up on their website.I decided to just treat it like an overgrown Obi202, and was able to get it up and running. Seems to work fine, except I have no idea what the POTS line input does, or how you utilize it. Pretty sorry for a $300 piece of gear. Also gives me zero confidence in Obihai as far as customer support goes.

READ BEFORE YOU BUY !!!!!!!!!!!
UPDATE 2019-03-22Polycom/Obi will not respond to customer's support requests to address MAJOR software issues, based on my experiences. I have a paid support plan and they will not provide support at all. An update will follow if and when Polycom addresses issues effecting several customers.Update 2018-11-18Support is non-existent. Can't get them to return my calls. Many, many issues with the service. Never again will I buy an obi!!Update 2018-07-10Firmware updates are too buggy and support is nonexistent. You have to pay 20.00 a year to be a "beta" tester because that is only way you will receive updates. I'm no longer happy with the product.I received my unit a week ago and also noticed that it did not include a manual. I assumed that OBi figured that most customers that purchase the OBi508vs are familiar with their products and also planned to have a online guide. It now appears that they just put a quick start guide online for this unit. The first thing that surprised me when I set up the unit (I have previously purchased a few OBi202's) was the lack of OBiWiFi support. I contacted their support and they replied quickly explaining that the potential for high bandwidth usage may affect call quality, so they chose not to currently support it. They did, however, explain that I could connect the 508 to my existing 202's port and connect wirelessly through the 202's OBiWiFi, but they don't recommend I do this unless absolutely necessary. I doubt that 8 concurrent calls would be smooth over WiFi too. They later stated that OBi may add the WiFi feature to the 508 at a later date, in spite of the issues. I just wish they made that clear at purchase. It would not have changed my mind about the purchase, but would have saved me time because I thought the unit was defective since I couldn't get ObiWiFi to work. I now have an extra ObiWiFi dongle.Even though in May 2014, Google Phone will stop working with Obi, I believe my Callcentric / localphone service is inexpensive enough to justify continued support of Obi products. After extensive research, they are the providers that give the best value, in my opinion. The 508 is new and they have only recently released their first 508 firmware upgrade. If the 508 turns out to be as solid of a product as the 202, Obi will have a big winner.Edit on 01/15/2014: After using the unit for a few days, I found a couple of bugs in the firmware. Tech Support is very helpful and responsive and seemed to fix some bugs that I reported. Main problems are with SP5-8. I have learned that you can only have four service providers (Callcentric, localphone, etc.) but can choose 8 Sip lines within the four. Would be better if it was like the 202 where each sip slot was totally independent. Also, there is no easy way to use ** codes to get to the higher ports (SP5-8) because they conflict with other services. For example, **8 is calling out to BT so **8 cant use SP8 port.A bigger issue is that the unit loses its connection (usually overnight) and requires a reboot to go back on line. I tried to assign a static IP to see if that helps. Wont know until tomorrow.I feel the product has great potential but it seems like the firmware is not quite ready for prime time. An admin guide specific for the 508 would be helpful. Changed from 4 to 3 stars. Well, back to beta testing the 508, for now!!Edit on 02/09/2014: After using the unit for a month, the firmware seems to be much more stable. Upgraded to 4 stars.

Offline doesn't work for more then 30 min. Took weeks to figure out why.
Don't waste your time it simply doesn't work. It's a great idea of having any type of service provider you want in one box, very flexible, Hardware looks solid still it actually works for about 30 minuets then it shows offline. My other voip provider Ooma keeps working my Obi200 keeps working this thing goes offline for no apparent reason attempted a few solutions like replacing the cable modem, used Ethernet switch to no avail. Save your money and get the 202 or other voip solution. After a few weeks I have configured the Obihai 202 with two lines I followed instruction for callcentric service. Those instructions are very specific and detailed. First Step was to disable ObiTalk registration!!! a few weeks later I now realize I still had obitalk registration turned on when I configured callcentric account. Nobody told me to turn that off tech support had failed to foresee this issue. I think if I have manually configured it without obitalk menu would have worked perfectly.Tech support needs to understand this OBItalk configuration should be turned off and then service set up manually!!!

Not Compatible with Outbound PSTN/POTS Service
We have a number of Obi110's that are end-of-life. The 110's have been rock solid reliable; very good product. So we thought the Obi508 would be a perfect fit. If all of your voice services are VoIP, then the 508 is a very nice solution. However, if you have any PSTN/POTS Service - forget it. The 508 has a built-in RJ11 for PSTN, that works in a power failure - but that's about it! It will not support routing outbound calls. So, I added an OBILINE, as that will allow the routing of outbound calls. However, much to my surprise, the calls were hollow sounding and choppy. Yes, choppy...? In addition, there's apparently no way to adjust the OBILINE settings. So if the PSTN/POTS needs a slight delay before receiving the DTMF digits there's no way to adjust it.Someday, all voice service will be VoIP - I get that. But until then, PSTN/POTS needs to be supported! This device it not ready for prime time. It's got all the right hardware, ports, etc. - but operationally, it's a mess. And lastly, there's OBi's Support - or lack thereof. I opened 2 different support tickets, and both times I received a response to: "read the manual." Yes, the 163 page manual which I had previously pored over in great detail. I can assure you that there's nothing in the manual that speaks to issue that I just described. So, I uninstalled the equipment, returned it to OBihai, and reinstalled the Obi110's.
