Not for the shallow reader
This book took me more deeply into Biblical research than ever before. Dr. Tonstad has a lovely writing style as well, which made a difficult topic a joy to read.

An excellent treatise on the Bible Sabbath
From this Sabbath worshipper's perspective, it's important that the Sabbath not be viewed as some kind of rule that has to be kept, just as it's important with all God's commands. Jesus taught us that the spirit of the law is what's important. This book does an excellent job of showing the character of God in His Sabbath. It is a deep read, however, and I found myself reading many sections twice. But overall, an important work for one interested in the true meaning of 7th day worship.

If you feel the need to have rest, read this book
There is likely no other work so comprehensive as this that tackles the character of God, the origin of man and evil, the cosmic struggle, or the best answer to the world’s toughest questions, as this towering, beautiful and joyful treatise on the seventh day. I recommend it highly to all thoughtful readers.

Excellent review of Sabbath history and meaning
Starting with the original Biblical history of the Sabbath the author has found its deep meanings and a rationale for both the loss of Sabbath keeping by most Christians (in the context of Hellenistic domination of culture) and a return to the spiritual values of worship represented by Sabbath restoration.

God said "Remember The Seventh Day to Keep It Holy."
The title of this book says it all. In a world where God's Law has been rejected by nearly the entire population of Earth, this book is a must and it and your Bible should be read together. "Remember the seventh day to keep it holy." Exodus 20:8. Why does the world keep the "Venerable Day Of The Sun"? Why are there only a few faithful people out there still keeping the 7th Day holy? Who changed God's fourth commandment and why? God said that He doesn't change and that not one "Jot or tittle" of the law would ever change. Jesus said "If you love me, keep my commandments." The seventh day is the Sabbath, the true Lord's Day. This book is worth the read and could save your life.

The Meaning of Sabbath
It's a bit deep theologically. What I mean is the author needed to present his ideas much more clearly with fewer words. I suppose it was meant for theologians, and I have studied theology. But I like less theo-verbage. Some paragraphs had to be read over several times.I did find some fresh ideas, but felt the author missed or lost a major one. The emphasis needs to be on Jesus in the Sabbath. He is the true Sabbath rest from our works. I am still reading the book--it's not a page-turner.

Arresting examination of the 7th day that challenges status quo.
Sigve Tonstad has examined the seventh day of the Bible carefully and crafted a superb, holistic view of its theological importance. The link he finds between the creation narrative and New Testament thought is clearly something that should be examined by those who have dismissed the relevance of the seventh day and accepted an alternative. He has thoughtfully explored the influence of Hellenism on the emerging Christian church in the early centuries and identified its impact on the shaping of Christian belief and practice.Tonstad, in his book, has contributed fresh and challenging understanding to a study that has engaged many scholars in recent years. He has confronted many of the conclusions of men like Rordof, Carson, Jewett and demonstrated their fundamental weaknesses, even though he has not engaged them directly. He has added to the insights of Bacchiocchi and given a deeper and more cohesive view that embraces a rich tapestry of Biblical unity on the subject. I have read many of the leading authors on this subject and rate Tonstad's work as definitive.
