Art Theory For Beginners Paperback – Illustrated, September 8, 2009

This is a funny awesome book! It takes art theory and puts it into comics! I love it! It's more of a supplement to art theory but well, that's why it's for beginners. It's a good way to be reminded about art theory too if you forget stuff, you can just go back and brush through quickly!

Great overview, well written and spot on about some very difficult material. A pleasure to read and to teach with! Clear weaving together of the basics of theory in compact form.

Very Nice Art Theory book. I gave it as a gift to several of my non-art friends to see if it was helpful in grounding their art understanding. I'm not so sure it works for people without some background or exposure to start. It is pretty standard fare for those into the art world. I would like to hear other folks opinions on this. Thanks!

If you need to brush up real quick on your art theory this is a great book to keep around, and its a fun read too!

Definitely what i expected. I assumed even after reading the description that there would be some actual theory but it's more of an art history type of book which is fine if you are looking for history.

A great introductory guide. I even found the cartoons helpful.

explains it's subject clearly in simple in english. the ideas are easy to grasp and so it is a perfect book for a new student in art or anyone who is looking for some clarification in theory.

easy to understand. If you really want to know about compact the whole art theory and history you should read this book.

a great book. it's a concise and coherent overview/introduction to the main ideas that have shaped western art and cluture from the ancient greeks upto the present day. similar to the 'introducing' series of books but longer and more substantial. the reviewers who gave this two stars are obviously stupid: yes art theory is complicated, but a general historical overview is far more accessible to a beginner than fragmenting it all up into a dictionary. also the book very much helps you put artworks in a theoretical and historical context and so helps you begin to understand and appreciate art more.

there are lots of books like these and there really helpful to get an idea of art theory before going into the really detailed stuff so i recommend it to anyone to get one as tutors also buy these.
