Solid camera for the price!
I have owned two of these cameras for a little over a week now. I really wanted an opportunity to set them up and play around with them so that I could leave a clear and concise review.I was skeptical when I first came across the Avacom H5060W for a few reasons. One, it was a brand I never heard of before. Two, the price was "too good to be true". Finally, from a cursory glance at the product's page, it looks like yet another cheap knock-off amongst the vast amounts of cheap Chinese knock-offs on Amazon. There's a camera floating around Amazon under the brand name "Dreamfly" and its design and specs are identical to the Avacom, but the Dreamfly is more expensive. Go figure.I did a little research into the Avacom brand and read all available Amazon reviews for the H5060W. The reviews were mostly positive and lauded the H5060W as the best camera in its price range. Then again, I ordered other cameras with overwhelmingly positive reviews but they turned out to be garbage. FWIW, take Amazon reviews with a grain of salt. Avacom's web site certainly won't win any awards for web site design, but what it lacks in eye candy it makes up for in content. It's simple enough to navigate and one does not have to dig through multitudes of pages to find product downloads or support information.I could have spent a little more and went with the massively popular Foscam or really splurged and went with something from Hikvision. The problem is that I'm a renter, my budget is essentially set in stone, and I don't think the landlord would appreciate me drilling holes all over the property to route Ethernet cable. I digress. With this in mind, I decided to take the plunge and ordered two H5060Ws and the main reason I did so is due to Avacom's web presence and customer support. Most of the other reviewers had positive remarks for Avacom's customer support, in particular a technician named Ray, and this review is no different. It was refreshing to see a company actively engage its customers both on Amazon and on its own message board. In addition, it was reassuring to see a company actually address a person's concerns rather than spoon-feed them a canned response. My experiences with Ray and the Avacom team were as equally positive as the other reviewers. When I received my cameras I noticed one had some kind of residue or glue on the side of it. Even though I purchased two new units, one in particular looked previously used and/or mishandled. I fired off an email to Avacom before initiating a return through Amazon. Ray responded within minutes and was not only apologetic for the mishap, but actually encouraged me to return the camera all the while assuring me that he would address the situation with the factory. I was floored by how quickly my concerns were addressed, and instead of returning the camera, I decided to set it up just to see how well it functioned. These cameras are advertised as being easy to set up thanks in part to "P2P" technology. I connected the cameras to my router, fired up the included Avacom "search tool" and was then able to successfully log-in to each camera and configure its settings accordingly. Set up on one camera was a snap, and after assigning it a static IP, I had it mounted and running off my WiFi in roughly ten minutes. Easy peasy. The second camera was a little trickier to set up, but I think it might have been a configuration issue with my router (a Netgear WGR614 v10). I tried using MAC address filtering, turning on and off SSID broadcasting, but this one camera refused to connect to my WiFi. I took a shot in the dark and set the router to transmit at 75 MBps vs 150 MBps (I rent a small cottage and occasionally stream Netflix, so downgrading the wireless connection wasn't too detrimental) and the camera then connected to the WiFi. So, the set up was a little bumpier than anticipated but overall it wasn't terribly complicated. Then again, I consider myself a computer enthusiast so while it might have been relatively easy for me, it could very well be troublesome for others. Now that I had the cameras connected to my WiFi, I disconnected the Ethernet cables and proceeded to load up the Avacom app. The version I downloaded from the Play store continually crashed so I downloaded the version Avacom has on their web site. The version from their web site works to the extent that it enables me to view my cameras remotely as well as execute pan & tilt functions, use the two-way audio feature, and remotely control the IR sensor. My main gripe with the app is that it is authored in broken English and it will constantly crash when attempting to view recordings (or "Messages" as their labeled in the app). I have been unable to get these cameras to work with anything other than the Avacom app, but as long as I check in and remotely monitor my home, I'm happy. In the long run, the app needs to be overhauled. Also, I should point out that there is an option to change the video resolution in the app. What this does is simply changes the quality of the video stream itself, so if you're on limited bandwidth you select a lower resolution for faster streaming. However, the recordings will still be recorded in 720p to the SD card. The web UI of the cameras is hit or miss. It's weird saying this in 2015, but the web UI is best viewed in Internet Explorer. I'm a Firefox guy and noticed the UI and options are limited in Firefox when compared to Internet Explorer. For instance, the resolution in FF is limited to 640x360, whereas I can view the cameras at 1280x720 with Internet Explorer. Additionally, I cannot view recordings on the SD card in Firefox but I have no problems viewing them with Internet Explorer. This can most likely be attributed to the OCX software that Internet Explorer uses for video playback. Speaking of video playback, videos aren't exactly smooth when viewed in a web browser. Don't get me wrong, they're clear as day, but there is noticeable lag and audible popping and clicking in the audio. Also, if one pans and/or tilts the camera while it is recording, you can definitely pick up the "whirring" sounds of the camera's internal mechanisms. I also had trouble viewing the recordings directly from the SD card when inserted into my system's memory card reader. I had to install additional codecs and playback software to view the videos, and even then playback is spotty at best. For starters, the videos are saved as .264 files so most programs won't open the files without additional codecs. Further, playback was noticeably poorer with VLC when compared to MPC, yet neither program would play the audio tracks. I'm going out on a limb here but I think when viewing the files directly on the SD card, they're "headerless". Perhaps Avacom tech support can shine some light on this issue. The IR LEDs are bright and they are very noticeable. Also, there is an audible clicking sound when they turn on or off, so keep this in mind if you intend on using these cameras as a baby monitor. The quality of IR recordings is impressive and they look great on my computer monitor. Image quality aside, don't expect to set these cameras up in a window and record outside events. The glass will reflect the IR light and create a strobe effect on the recording; essentially, you'll see nothing other than a white screen. But, if you use these cameras to monitor indoor areas, and as long as there are no obstructions or other obstacles that might interfere with the IR light, the quality of IR recordings are as good as standard recordings. The cameras are constructed soundly enough and the pictures don't do them justice. The blue trim on the base looks a lot nicer in person than in the pictures. One issues I feel the need to address is that base itself is bulkier when compared to two Annke cameras I returned to Amazon. The rear of the base is so thick that I have trouble disconnecting the Ethernet cable. Also the bulk of the base adds considerable weight to the included mounting brackets. The mounting brackets themselves aren't the sturdiest and seemingly buckle under the weight of the camera, but they have held up so far and I can easily replace them if need be.All in all, for the price I paid, these cameras are good enough and fit my needs perfectly. The image quality is nothing short of impressive while the mobile app and firmware/web UI are both serviceable. I would be happier if it were easier to retrieve and playback recordings on the SD card. I feel that the full potential of these cameras is being hampered by a shoddy mobile app and so-so web UI. If Avacom can iron out some bugs and release a more user-friendly (and better translated) app and firmware, I would have no problems giving the H5060W a five star rating. Are these cameras comparable to Hikvision or Dahua, not exactly, but then again these Avacom cameras are a lot more affordable and budget-friendly. I never used Foscam equipment so I can't provide a proper comparison between the two, but these Avacoms definitely blow away the Uniden and Annke cameras I returned.I cannot say it enough, but I am thoroughly pleased with Avacom customer support, especially Ray. While I never attempted to call them, I am impressed with how quickly they answered my emails. Further, I was surprised when Ray followed up with me a few days after our previous discussion. He wanted to see how I was making out with everything and he even said that if I was truly upset with the cosmetic blemishes on the one camera, he would be happy to exchange it for a replacement! I declined since both cameras seem to be working very, very well, but it is nice to see a company watching out for its customers. Also, the fact that Avacom maintains an active presence on Amazon demonstrates their commitment to their customers. In time, I think Avacom can become a major player in the budget security market. Supposedly Avacom will be releasing an outdoor counterpart to the H5060W sometime in June or July 2015. If these little H5060Ws are any indication of the quality of the forthcoming outdoor unit, then I cannot wait to snatch one or two of those up upon release! I highly recommend these cameras, especially for renters, and rate them a solid 4/5 stars!

Great Camera with amazing clarity - Especially for the price!!!
This camera is amazing. I'm STILL in awe of how clear the picture is when viewing from my phone. Set up was very easy, even without the start up guide. I bought this to keep an eye on my dog and home. I have it set so I can pan through my house, as well as see out the front window. The clarity doesn't change when looking outside. I run the app on my Galaxy S5, and my daughter runs it on her iPhone 5, both show really great clarity. Our internet connection is really good too, so the delay is minimal.Very Impressed with this camera. Will purchase another for different parts of my house.

Excellent value
I'm enjoying the camera. Image quality is quite good, and the user interface is not bad. Like many of these Chinese cameras, there are a few things lost in translation, but nothing that is a real problem. Best experience for me so far is on IE with the ocx plugin or the iOS app. Works fine on other browsers too, but you lose some functions.Has a P2P function that allows use of the camera from outside your network without having to change your firewall settings. P2P is a bit of a misnomer here, as it does use a 3rd party server to establish the connection. It works well, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the camera out in the wild west of the Internet and talking to servers from who knows where. I'd rather use my own VPN and not rely on a simple password on the camera that could be brute force hacked. No, I don't know that there are a bunch of zombie cameras out there, but if it CAN happen, eventually it will. Ray at Avacom assures me that this P2P function can be turned off in the software (have not seen it quite yet), and a forthcoming web UI update will add a switch there to turn it off as well. If they don't come through, I'll report back with fewer stars. Already, I'm impressed that they were even willing to provide an honest attempt to get me an answer when I called asking about it. Way to be.Pros: good color with light, good night vision with IR enabled. Controls are adequate. Lots of functions I'm interested in but have not even got around to using.Cons: questionable security with P2P function, but maybe better than letting grandma configure her own firewall?

You may end up disappointed - I'm out $100
Update to previous review. I paid a higher price for this camera initially, closer to $99. Now its $40. Unfortunately they upgraded their ap and now the camera does not function. Sent emails back and forth with no solution. At one point they said they would contact me when the software engineer had a fix and I was not the only one with the issue. After several more attempts to contact them over a period of a month+ I have heard nothing back. I have a camera that is "online" meaning it has a static shot of the room but with no capability to use it because of a password glitch. NO THANKS.So far so good. With all the paid thus questionable reviews on wireless cameras, along with an equal amount of negative reviews, I was not holding my breath. I finally just bit the bullet and bought one after exhausting all the reviews and brands. This camera was EASY to set up as a wireless from my iphone. The pan and tilt also easy to do. Picture is amazingly clean even in very very low light. Still need to test out audio fully but my mini-test wasn't bad. I was not expecting the audio to be much and not what I wanted the camera for so even fairly decent audio was a bonus. The photo was taken with the only light coming from a wall mount tv in the background. I'm impressed with the way it "lights up" the video. If anything changes I will post another review but for now I am very happy with this camera.
