South Shore Step One 1-Drawer Nightstand, Pure Black with Matte Nickel Handles

Because of prior experiences in the past, I was hesitant about buying furniture online that had to be assembled at home. However, I needed to save a little money to remodel my daughter's entire bedroom, so I took a chance on the Step One Collection. I bought six pieces of South Shore's Step One Collection. Not only was I pleased with the quality, but this furniture was very easy to put together. The instructions were complete and easy to understand and all the pieces fit together with ease and precision. Additional little extras like drawer stabalizers and markings to make assembly easier really made a difference. I bought a seventh piece from another company (Overstock) because South Shore did not have the desk I wanted, and, as with my prior experiences, the Overstock purchase was a disaster. I am extremely impressed with South Shore's important attention to detail and very happy with the overall products. I highly recommend their furniture. I've been looking for the perfect nightstand for a long time, and I finally found it. It just arrived today (came one day late, no big deal though) it looked just as pictured. I'm a 21 female and am not good at putting things together, luckily my dad lives by so he came over to help me put it together (approx. 45 minutes) and it went smoothly. The wood is very sleek and smooth, not rough or jagged for fear of splinters (issue for me). The edges are sharp however so caution ha. The drawer is huge, there is so much room in there. The color is 100% accurate. Instructions were easy to follow through too. There is decent open space in the bottom, probably where I will be putting my purse. It's not too tall and not too small, just right-I have a king size bed for future reference to help anyone... I would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice dark grey nightstand(:

Easy to assemble and looks good, but just a couple of things. First, the attachment method for the frong base panel is about the most non-sensical thing I've ever see. There are these 2 plastic bracket things with peg things that you're supposed to push/hammer into holes which the diagram then seemingly tells you to put nails through to secure (don't do that, it'll go through the front). Then you pop into place. Well it isn't seure or flush and the front surface of the bottom shelf that it overlays is not finished so you can see unfinished wood in the gap. Don't know why it couldn't just use the standard bracket and screws or cams/cam bolts or even just dowels as it slots between the 2 side panels. Second, the bottom surface is unfinished and it doesn't include any feet. The nightstand isn't heavy to move and it probably isn't an issue with carpeted floors, but the floors in my apartment are hardwood so I will have to buy feet to install so avoid it scratching up the wood. Hopefully the much heavier bureau and chest-of-drawers I also ordered from South Shore have feet/sliders (haven't put those together yet).

As I'm sure is the case for many of you, I was looking for a set of night stands without paying the absurd prices most places want for them. I definitely needed at least one drawer so for around $50 these were by far the most affordable so I took a gamble on them... what a good choice that was.Assembly is not that bad although a bit time intensive. Based on other reviews of this and the matching dresser, the drawers tend to be a bit flimsy, so I used Gorilla Glue to secure the bottoms of the drawers and they are very sturdy. I'm not sure how much of a difference the glue made since I didn't use them without it, but they seem to be well made given the price tag.Overall, these are great night stands and would definitely recommend them over anything else near this price range.

Ok first let's ge an understanding of when we are reviewing here, its particleboard furniture that you assemble yourself out of a flat-pack box. It is not a duncan phyfe side table or a french armoire, its basically small woodchips mixed with an industrial glue then pressed into the desired shape, so accept that fact.Being a gay man I'm not a fan of cheap furniture but I moved all of my real furniture is in storage and I lack the motivation to move everything twice, so hence the purchase of two nightstands.Mine were delivered with no damage, no crumpled corners or broken pieces , it slid out of the box easily and sat in a nice pile while I sat in the floor and reviewed the instructions. I'm Sure if I were an 8 yr old chinese kid they would be perfect but since I am not I had to familiarize myself with them for several minutes and figure out what were the important parts.Assembly was fairly simple, take the lettered part and attach it with the part in the diagram, until you reach the lower shelf that is. This shelf only fits one way, any other way and the lower apron will not snap into place. This is not mentioned in the instructions anywhere , so just remember. Also expect to have extra parts left over, they supply you with spares. Your hammer will come in handy but I suggest also having a towel on hand to cushion the piece when using itThe drawers are deep enough for everyday use but the finish is awful, its some kind of vinyl covering, the cheapest obviously. Body oil from fingerprints, hand lotioin show up and stay on it. A damp sponge usually removes them. They are a little on the short side for next to the bed but have a nice footprint so the top has room for a lamp, clock ashtray and candles.In my opinion they are overpriced, somewhere around 40 bucks is appropriate, for starter furniture or something temporary they work fine and they beat nothing at all.
