Q: What's in the box? This ad is very light on description.

The best description is over on the Maker Made web site, but this essentially comes with everything except the router, wood frame, and the screws to assemble the wood frame. This kit DOES come with the Z axis control (another kit does not have Z axis). You will also need a sled to mount the rings and router to, the full instructions are available on Maslow CNC or MakerMade web sites. There is another kit, called the JumpStart, that comes with the sled and pre-drilled holes for mounting the ring, bricks, etc as well as a router bit. Amazon currently has those in stock in their warehouse.

Q: What depth can this cut? Could it handle a simple design in 2-3” wood?

The depth is going to be ver dependent on the router and the bit used. The Rigid routers recommended for this specific model can go as far down as two inches on foam board, but we do not recommend that on wood. You can also see our M2 kit, that has quite a bit more feature set and upgrades to the Basic kit, allowing more control, different routers and bits.

Q: can this accept any type of router bits, specifically a dovetail bit? what size collet does the maslow use?

Yeah, so the maslow can run on most routers that have the standard 1/2 in or 1/4 collet adapter and fixed base. I would not use a dove tail bit for cutting patterns but I don't see why I wouldn't be able to.... for example carve a rail, key slots or such. You can also reference the maslow community online and see if anyone has used dove tail bits and for what.

Q: it doesn't come with the software needed to create your own projects, ; Can you recommend three or four?

You need a CAD (fusion360) and CAM (same) then export to ground control then mill
