Running for two weeks straight
So far, so good. I have only had it for a couple of weeks but I love that the filter doesn't need to be changed every 6 months or so. I hope it lasts for the approximate 5 years it is supposed to. We are using it for generally cleaner air--we don't have any fumes or chemicals in particular, so I have high hopes it will last for years before replacement is needed. I originally went with a different purifier (about the same price) that needed filters changed every 6 to 8 months, and it had a UV-C light as well as the option to turn on a ionizer--which we don't want. I decided to return it after it put out a strong odor upon running it. This one puts out fresh, clean air. I like the no frills of Austin and I hope it is as durable as it claims to be. Good so far!

Great Air Purifier - be careful who you purchase it from.
Just set it up in my home office. I am impressed. Reasonably quiet on high setting. I already notice air quality difference. I have used Honeywell quiet care for years. I have not been satisfied recently with the effectiveness and quality of their product (think they were better made in past - lasted longer and were quieter). In addition, some of our family members have allergies that have worsened - so the Honeywell product may just not have been adequate.I would not suggest buying through International Coffee and Books as I did . I did so based on great ratings. I received a dented slightly stained model that does not appear to be new as promised. Not worth the effort to return but I would NEVER buy from this seller again. Beware!

Avoid this product.
Skip it and go to a name brand. This unit is really a box for a large $120 air filter that need to be replaced every 4-6 months. I have had this unit for 15 months, running it at night in the bed room. Clean house, non-smoking, no pet in the room. I'm on my third filter, two that I had to buy from Austin. The reason I changed the filter was because the air coming from the unit smelled bad. When I looked at the unit and the filter it was perfectly clean. Not dirt, dust. I'm baffled as to why the filter would fail so quickly but I would not recommend this product. And if you are environmentally concerned, this large metal filter will end up sitting in a landfill.

This is my favorite air filter for a moderate to severe allergy sufferer
This is my favorite air filter for a moderate to severe allergy sufferer. I personally have bought about 5 of these over the last 6 years and have really been happy with them. The filters do not go 4 years, rather more like 1-2, but they are sturdy and last and none of them have broken to date. The low setting is whisper quiet for when you don't want to be disturbed, you can hardly tell it's on. The high setting though is a nice robust white noise if you like to sleep with white noise in the background like I do. I would and have recommended this product to anyone who who suffers from environmental allergies like dust, pollen, and mold.

Filter for my art studio?
I bought this air purifier for my art studio because it advertised the ability to filter out VOC's and can absorb gases for chemically sensitive people. As a painter with a poorly-ventilated studio that is next to other artists' studios, I needed something that would clear the air of painting fumes. So far, the filter has worked great. The air that comes out of it is clean, and I find it is powerful, given it's size. Once I accidentally left it on over the weekend on the first setting (because you can't hear it when it is on low) and my studio smelled and felt very clean. The downside is that it does not have a filter change indicator, leaving me clueless as to when the filters should be changed. I assume that if it is working in "dirtier" conditions than the next air filter, it would need changing more often than the stated filter change recommended in the manual. And be assured, the HEPA filter is expensive ($140) and needs to be changed yearly. The prefilters are cheaper ($10) and need to be changed more often. On its higher setting, it is not a quiet machine, but it is not loud either. It makes an almost inaudible hum with a distinct noise like wind passing through a small space, but it does not bother me -- in fact, I find it comforting. The noise is comparable to, if not less than, the Honeywell (I also own). The lesser two settings are very quiet. The other trivia fact about it that I didn't know until purchasing it is that the clean air that comes out is directed at a 45 degree angle up and sideways from the vent. I am not sure why it was designed to be that way.

Great at first, but then broke after a month.
When I received this air filter it worked great. It really does take all the smells out of the air. I was amazed by how well it works. But one month after I bought it, it started to make noises as if something on the inside was rattling. Every time I turned it on or put it on a low setting it rattled really bad. This is why I give it three stars. I'm probably going to give it another try and buy another one. Maybe I just got a lemming. But I am concerned that something that costs so much and is made of metal shouldn't have defects. I question the quality.

Works fast to clean the air!!
I bought this because a water pipe broke and there was mold growing. I started using this filter before the mold could be removed. Within 30 minutes my sinuses cleared up in my eyes stopped burning. This product is amazing and it works very quickly to clean the air.As far as the condition goes, it looks like a factory screw was tightened too tight and it put a Dent in the top of the filter and it's very visible. Other than that, it's perfect.
