Looking at maps shouldn't be this much fun
My transformation from cool dude into train nerd is almost complete . This is a fascinating look at the urban train systems of "every" city in the world. Some of the maps come with no commentary making them far less interesting to me, and I was surprised at how many cities are expanding their systems (an awful lot of them due for completion next year for some reason), but 90% of the book is one of those where you could lose 15 minutes just looking at a subway map.

maps with a use
A a great reference to major cities of the world who have a transport system that can be mapped and used. now we need similar books for bus-lines, tramlines.

in that much of the text is small and not always easily readable, for anyone with any vision defects
An extremely comprehensive and detailed review of every metro and light rail system in the world. My only problem with the publication is purely a personal one, in that much of the text is small and not always easily readable, for anyone with any vision defects.

excellent, with a few minor flaws
Excellent atlas covering different transit systems around the world. A few minor gripes:1) Only rail transit systems are covered. That leaves out bus rapid transit systems, which make up the greater part of the transit networks (excluding regular city buses) of cities like Pittsburgh and Ottawa even though those cities have some light rail as well.2) Not all the transit systems that are covered have maps, though then again, there's just too many of those systems to put them all into maps to show in the book.3) As a Montrealer, I noticed 1986 as the start year of the Metro over there. In reality, it started in 1966, in advance of Expo 67 the following year.

Detailed, organized, solid read
Detailed and organized, the Transit Maps of the World displays a short synopsis of the subway systems around the world. I leave it on the coffee table, and had many guests browse through and compliment the book. If you like transit systems, you'll love this book.

Love this boom
I bought this book years ago as a gift and fell in love with it... So much so I had to find it again and buy it for myself! It's well laid out and fun to read. Each system is a self contained set of pages, making it an excellent bathroom or coffee table book.
