The volume is adequate for most listening, as long as your ears are fairly decent. I wear hearing aids and it sounds fine even from a short distance. It won't work if you're trying to use it as the sound system for a party.

The power plug is a typical-looking "wall wart", with an integral cord. You plug the trasformer unit into a standard 120-AC Volt receptacle, the cord is five-foot in length and you plug it into the 5-Volt receptacle on the left side of the player, near the back.

Refering to page 2, item 10: plug in a USB thumbdrive at the port on the left side of the player Place your recorded casette tape inside the chamber (item 2). With the unit on, back the tape up to a point just before the music or recording that you want to record to MP3. Refer to the illustration, and note the row of buttons at the top of the player (item 13). Those are the USB MP3 control buttons. Start playing the tape and at the point you want to record to MP3, press the far right button (it has the imbossed 'square' beneath it). The small indicator (14) should start flashing and will remain so as you record to MP3 format on your thumb drive. To stop recording, press the far-right button again, the flashing indicator will stop. You can then extract your USB thumb-drive and insert it in your computer or other device. On the computer, search the thumb drive for the MP3 file. My first recording was "AUX0001.MP3". Using the computer's "File Manager" program you can change the name as you would any other file, just leave the MP3 file type alone. I hope this is helpful to you. Note that I wasn't impressed with the sound quality. My original tape was recorded myself from a local FM station and I thought the quality was quite good (expensive FM receiver, with separate dual tape deck). It sounds great on playback there, but on this Philco it is rather 'tinney sounding. Good luck!
